[00:00:02] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast.

[00:00:05] Live from the North Pole, it's time for Christmas Morning, the daily show where every day is

[00:00:21] Christmas.

[00:00:22] Here are your hosts, Bran and Scott.

[00:00:25] Wow.

[00:00:26] Hello everybody and welcome back.

[00:00:27] It's Christmas morning.

[00:00:28] I'm Bran.

[00:00:32] I'm here with my good friend, Scott.

[00:00:33] Scott, great to see you again, pal.

[00:00:34] Merry Christmas.

[00:00:35] Thank you.

[00:00:37] I missed you so much.

[00:00:38] I thought about you last week when it was Wednesday morning, obviously, and when I would

[00:00:39] normally go to the North Pole and I was like, miss that guy.

[00:00:40] I couldn't have been further for the North Pole.

[00:00:41] I was in Florida.

[00:00:42] So a little bit different, a little bit of a different vibe.

[00:00:43] But it's good to be back.

[00:00:44] You were at the beach?

[00:00:45] I was at the beach.

[00:00:46] Yeah, where?

[00:00:47] In the US.

[00:00:48] But I mean, you could be, you could be in your hotel room, your hotel room if you wanted

[00:00:49] to.

[00:00:50] You could be in your hotel room.

[00:00:51] I was at the beach.

[00:00:52] Oh, I know.

[00:00:53] I was at the beach.

[00:00:54] You were at the beach.

[00:00:55] I was at the beach.

[00:00:56] It's wonderful.

[00:00:57] North while I was in Florida. So a little bit different, a little bit of a different

[00:01:01] vibe but it's good to be back. You were at the beach? I was at the beach. Now here's the

[00:01:07] question. A lot of beach towns have little Christmas shops. Did you find any? I didn't

[00:01:11] see any Christmas shops there and I do look. I've always kept my eye out. Sure. You did

[00:01:18] tell me about one that was in Clearwater I believe. Yep, Roberts Christmas Wonderland.

[00:01:24] And I did think about it when I was heading back to the airport. Can't do that one. But

[00:01:29] it wouldn't, I didn't give myself enough time to make that a reality. I think it's just

[00:01:35] something that you and I are going to have to do together, Scotty. I think we should

[00:01:39] do a Christmas store tour, you and I, just across the country. Christmas road trip. We'll

[00:01:45] go to Ohio, we'll go to that Castle Noel, then we'll just bop on down to Florida, and

[00:01:51] then we'll go up to Michigan. It might be a better route, but I don't know. I'll let

[00:01:57] you decide all that. Right. That sounds great. I would love to do that. Hey, can we open

[00:02:01] up the mailbag because it's chock full after not checking it for a week. Man, I tell you

[00:02:05] what, it is just bouncing it so full. Let's do it.

[00:02:08] Letters, we get letters. We get stacks and stacks of letters.

[00:02:15] Now a couple of these emails are a little on the older side because they were a week

[00:02:19] old when we were here last. So I'm cleaning out the old inbox. Apologies to anybody if

[00:02:24] it took too long to get to your email. From Nicholas Linsman, St. Nick, he said, I'm not

[00:02:29] sure if you have one of these yet, but the Hallmark Store Dream Book just recently came

[00:02:34] out and let me tell you, it's awesome. It's got all the 2024 keepsake Christmas ornaments.

[00:02:40] So swing on to your local Hallmark store and grab a copy. I think we might've teased this

[00:02:44] last time we talked, Brianne, but I did not go over to the Hallmark store and pick one

[00:02:48] up. Although I really should, because this is exactly the kind of thing I would just

[00:02:51] love to thumb through while I'm sitting on the couch.

[00:02:54] Yeah, it's not something that I've ever gotten into and I think it might be like the Lord's

[00:03:00] way of protecting me because I think it is something that if I do get into it, it might

[00:03:07] take over my whole life. Like another certain type of Hallmark type of thing out there has.

[00:03:15] So I think it's a good thing. I'm going to let the other people have this and I will

[00:03:20] look at the cover that he provided and say, looks cute.

[00:03:24] You know, last year when I arrived at Bramble Fest, I was treated like a King by everybody,

[00:03:30] meaning like Elizabeth Colton and Martin and they put together these nice bags and in there

[00:03:35] was the Dream Book catalog. So if I don't make it over, maybe one will just show up. And

[00:03:41] by the way, when I say I was treated like a King, I was just floored how nice and gracious

[00:03:46] everybody was. That's what I mean. I don't, I certainly don't deserve to be treated like

[00:03:50] anything.

[00:03:51] That sounds like a Sheila too. Sheila might've done that. Everyone's so thoughtful. If you,

[00:03:56] if you haven't been to Bramble Fest, come on down. We are doing another live Christmas

[00:04:01] morning this year at Bramble Fest, which is going to be a lot of fun. And so come on,

[00:04:05] hang out. It's going to be a lot of fun or you can just buy virtual tickets. It's another

[00:04:08] fun way to do it.

[00:04:09] Yeah. Brandon will be there. I believe.

[00:04:10] Yeah, it's going to be great. Very good time.

[00:04:12] Very exciting. Another email from Bethann Smith. She says, well, Scott, it's Wednesday

[00:04:16] morning and just because Bran has to go on vacation, I don't have a new Christmas morning

[00:04:20] episode to listen to. I can hardly type through my tears. Ha, just kidding. I figured I would

[00:04:26] at least email you and let you know I'm missing y'all's voices this morning, at least in a

[00:04:29] new episode so that next week if Bran asks if anyone missed y'all, you can tell them you

[00:04:35] got at least one email. Well, actually I can tell you we've got exactly one email. So thank

[00:04:40] you Bethann Smith. Only one email. Yep. But the end of her email says 50 days until we

[00:04:45] are together in Yadat Greenville. I am so excited. I am excited as well. And a very

[00:04:51] sweet email. I'm happy that somebody missed us because I missed it. I missed it. But you

[00:04:55] know what? I think it's good to be missed every once in a while, Scott. Occasionally

[00:05:00] you got to take a week off because you know, it's one of those things where you don't,

[00:05:04] you don't realize what you got till you don't have it. Absence makes the heart grow fonder,

[00:05:09] right? That's right. And we want fondness. We want to be fond. Yeah. And speaking of

[00:05:14] absence in three weeks, I'll be in Alaska so I will not be in the North Pole. I'll be

[00:05:17] adjacent. Wow. Nor the, yeah. So we'll figure out, we'll figure out something. We'll take

[00:05:21] that one off here. We'll telephone you in from Alaska. I've got one more email. This

[00:05:25] is the mean email of the day. Are you ready? Oh boy. Okay. Yeah. This one's from Elizabeth

[00:05:30] Nelson. She says, I'm a little behind in my podcast listening and just heard your May

[00:05:33] 15th episode. I just have to say, listen to you guys shows your age because you're talking

[00:05:38] about the trans Siberian orchestra song, Christmas Eve, Sarajevo and how you just wanted to get

[00:05:43] to the good stuff. Well, in my defense, brand was the one that wanted to get to the good

[00:05:46] stuff but shows how little you know of the music you're listening to. The song was written

[00:05:52] in remembrance of people who went out into the middle of a war to remind us of our humanity.

[00:05:56] Now I'm not saying Elizabeth is wrong. She's probably exactly right here. And I love to

[00:06:00] learn this kind of stuff. I don't know everything, but I don't like to be bullied and yelled

[00:06:05] at about it. I don't think she's yelling at us, but I will say, I will say that. I think

[00:06:12] by recall what I was saying was that song is the good stuff and that the rest of the

[00:06:18] album, the rest of the album wops. Yeah. Don't, don't play deck the halls. We don't

[00:06:23] need that trans Siberian orchestra. Yeah. I don't need it. This is the song. This is

[00:06:28] the one that I want. This is a good stuff, but I do like learning about music trivia.

[00:06:33] And so that's why we had the music trivia question. Yeah. I didn't know this fact and

[00:06:37] now maybe I'll do it on a tensile tunes episode. Get real deep into it or something. Sounds

[00:06:42] interesting. It does sound interesting. Thank you for the email and thank you everybody

[00:06:45] for emailing in letting us know you missed us. I'm sure many of you just meant to email.

[00:06:50] I'm sure a lot of them got lost in the, Oh gosh. Yeah. They'll trickle in over the year.

[00:06:56] Sure. Yeah. Do we have any reviews? We do. We got two new ones. Wow. I know I'll read

[00:07:03] one of them. Now this is from Jack Z Grammy, Jack's Grammy, Jack's Grammy. Maybe I don't

[00:07:09] think it's Jack's Grammy. You don't think so? She said she passed and how much she misses

[00:07:13] her. And that's very sweet. So I don't think that's this my weekly Christmas present. Wednesdays

[00:07:18] have more sparkle since I've discovered Christmas morning. Brandon Scott are definitely Santa's

[00:07:23] helpers spreading joy to all their loyal listeners. Thank you both for brightening my week by

[00:07:29] sharing your Christmas joy. That was sweet. Scott's Santa's helper. That was very nice.

[00:07:36] Thank you. Jack's Grammy. I like that moniker. I'll take that one. I'm one of Santa's helpers.

[00:07:41] 100% I liked that a lot. That was very sweet. Thank you so much. Uh, please. We're almost

[00:07:45] to two 50, which is very exciting. It's a nice number and nice one. So maybe that can

[00:07:49] be you leave a review and we'll read it on the air. And our new goal is to get to 300

[00:07:53] reviews by the year 3000 and we're on track. I think that that is possible. I feel, I feel

[00:07:59] good about it. Uh, Scott, you got a joke for us by chance. I need a Christmas joke.

[00:08:03] I didn't get one last week and my week was sad because of it. I have a listener supplied

[00:08:09] joke. Are you ready for it? This is from Coraline Hitchmoth. Okay. How did Scrooge win the football

[00:08:15] game? He stole it. No, the ghosts of Christmas past. P A S S E D. The ghost of Christmas

[00:08:26] past. It's a very cerebral job. Hey, don't hear my lack of laughter for a lack of appreciation.

[00:08:35] That's not what that is at all. If you saw it on a billboard, you'd be laughing your butt off.

[00:08:40] Oh my gosh. I bet it crushes on billboard. You know, billboard jokes, crush.

[00:08:46] Amazing. I feel like Joe Fulton's going to be clipping that one at the end of the year for us.

[00:08:50] Yeah, I think he might. Oh, let's do the countdown.

[00:08:57] Two hundred and three days until Christmas.

[00:09:03] I got, I gotta tell you, I thought we were, I thought we were going to be under 200 this week,

[00:09:09] but I'll take it. I couldn't remember where we were, but it's getting really close. And

[00:09:15] it is all those things that come along with being really close to 200 days. The days are super long.

[00:09:22] Like the sun doesn't go down until nine 30 at night. Like I live in Alaska or something.

[00:09:26] The days are hot. It's 92 degrees in Denver. I can't even imagine what is in green, like 143

[00:09:31] degrees, but we're going to do it in just a couple weeks. The days start getting shorter

[00:09:37] and yeah, it's going to be a little hot still, but we're going to be under 200 days.

[00:09:41] And that's only 29 weeks too. If you want to think of it in the short way, it's 29 weeks. We can do

[00:09:46] that. We can do that. That's very nice. That's very nice. And listen, October, forget about it. You

[00:09:51] want to know some really good news brand? Tell me, tell me. It's 118 days until October 1st.

[00:09:55] 118 days till we go daily. That's incredible.

[00:10:00] Six. No, no, no, no, no, no. But 16 weeks until you can start seeing the Christmas stuff in stores.

[00:10:06] 16 weeks sounds like nothing. And I'm very excited about that. So that really picked me up when I

[00:10:11] read that. That's exciting. I love that. Thank you, Scotty, for giving us a bit of news. And

[00:10:17] speaking of news, I've got some more. If you want it, I always want your news, Brandon.

[00:10:25] Today is Wednesday, June 5th. Here's the news.

[00:10:33] Man, it is a, I don't know, a slow news week, a fast one who can say really you decide if you've

[00:10:40] ever watched a HGTVs hometown, you know, the host, and I know that, you know them Scott,

[00:10:47] but I'll explain it to the people. Aaron and Ben Napier are the hosts of that show.

[00:10:52] And they had Christmas a little early this year on June 1st, they had a Christmas themed party.

[00:11:01] And Scott, you might be wondering why would these people have a Christmas themed party on June 1st?

[00:11:08] Well, their six year old daughter, I'm sorry, their three year old daughter said,

[00:11:15] you know what type of party I want? I want a Christmas party for my birthday. So they made

[00:11:22] Christmas cookies, they lit Christmas candles, they brought in a little Christmas tree.

[00:11:28] They did grill hot dogs, I guess that's something a water slide in the backyard.

[00:11:32] Listen to Bing Crosby, a little combination of summer and Christmas, all because their daughter

[00:11:39] wanted a Christmas themed birthday party. And when you have a June 1st birthday, you never can do

[00:11:44] that. So might as well just just do it. So I was inspired by this and I would like to ask the

[00:11:51] listeners out there, have you ever had a Christmas themed birthday in the summertime? Maybe it's

[00:11:57] something that you've always wanted to do. And you haven't done it. Maybe you can do it this year.

[00:12:01] I found this to be very sweet, very charming, and a inspiration to all Scottie.

[00:12:06] Now you say serving hot dogs like it's a bad thing. I would eat a hot dog. Actually hold up.

[00:12:12] Hey Santa, do you like hot dogs on Christmas Eve?

[00:12:18] What do you say? Yes. Okay. Yeah, I couldn't hear it. It got there's the noise gate. I couldn't hear

[00:12:23] him. Yeah, I think it was just it was all the Christmas things and then hot dogs. And so I

[00:12:29] it caught me off guard a little bit, but I'm not upset about the hot dogs. Well, it's hard to go

[00:12:33] to the store and buy little Debbie Christmas tree cakes in June. I get that. That's true. But my

[00:12:39] daughter's birthday is the week of Christmas. So we usually have a birthday party for her in July

[00:12:44] so that she feels like she gets a full separate holiday. She's never asked for a Christmas

[00:12:49] birthday party, but it wouldn't shock me if she did. I'm sure that there are people out there

[00:12:54] that have had this in their life. So if you have, please let us know. I'd love to hear it. I think

[00:12:58] it's a it's really fun. You said these people do like the HGTV thing or something? Yeah, they host

[00:13:04] a show. Do you think maybe they could like, you know, make a Christmas house for us? What do you

[00:13:09] mean make a Christmas house? Like, I don't know, like move that bus. And then like the whole house

[00:13:14] is just a big Christmas house. Like they redid it for us. Yeah, let's pitch it. Well, I like

[00:13:18] pitch. Let's let's do it right into People magazine. Thank you. Or whomever does that.

[00:13:22] Let's take a quick break. We'll come back. We'll get to the TV listings and today's

[00:13:27] Christmas music battle. Wolf here on Christmas morning. Welcome back, everybody. It is

[00:13:38] officially June. We're in summer and I can honestly say I've never needed Christmas TV

[00:13:45] more than I need it right now. In fact, while I was on vacation, I did turn on the TV and found

[00:13:52] on Friday night, Homer was playing some Christmas movies, turned it on, enjoyed that.

[00:13:57] And it's all thanks to you, TV Scotty, because you let us know what's going to be on TV.

[00:14:02] I hope there's something this week. It would make me so happy. So please, TV Scotty,

[00:14:05] let us know what is happening this week. Wow, no pressure, Branton. Thank you. I know it's

[00:16:00] Christmas offering on Hallmark because she has a new movie coming out on Saturday so a nice

[00:16:07] full Bethany Joy Lynn's weekend. Well sounds like a good weekend. That's nice. Let's get to the

[00:16:11] Christmas music battle from two weeks ago Snowmizer Heatmizer I gotta be honest I'm looking at this

[00:16:18] and I don't remember what song I brought luckily you reminded me below. Luckily I do. So now I

[00:16:24] do know that I did loss I came in last place with my version by Crash Vinyl. You think it was the

[00:16:32] vocals that lost it for me on this one? I think it's just a little on the heavy side for a lot

[00:16:37] of people's tastes but. The bass is a little loud there. A little growly a little growly but

[00:16:43] in second place with 33% of the vote it's Snowmizer by Ska2 Network. I thought this

[00:16:52] banger was gonna win Brian. Yeah great great version definitely goes on a playlist. I don't

[00:16:58] remember the one that won so let me tell you if I if I'm surprised this is the winner with 49%

[00:17:05] of the vote by Rainer this is a really good version yeah oh yeah this is that Blink-182 style one.

[00:17:12] Let me hear the vocals a little bit okay those vocals aren't good either. No no it's a little

[00:17:21] on the heavy side like sometimes when the Mighty Mighty Boss tones go a little growly yeah but

[00:17:25] that's what it reminded me of. I did like it it is good. I liked the guitar though if we could

[00:17:29] ensure they're just combined Ska2 and Rainer we really have something there but 49% of the vote

[00:17:36] went to Rainer so that was brought to us by listeners Drew Basic and Lenora Gilbert thank

[00:17:40] you both for submitting that. How about that it's close race I think the listeners are only down one

[00:17:45] now yeah I think uh I'm in the lead then it's a listener then it's you I think but it's still

[00:17:50] anybody's game it's real close. Let's get to this week's song Holiday Road. I was reminded this week

[00:17:56] Scott that I don't like this song and I like this song a lot. Not only do I not really like this song

[00:18:03] I apparently really don't like covers of this song. Oh wow. I had a tough time I did not enjoy

[00:18:10] this battle. Well wait till you hear mine your tune is going to change let me give you a little

[00:18:14] trivia about it I think part of the problem Brian is you were not even a glimmer in your parents eye

[00:18:20] when the movie Vacation came out. I was six I believe and I don't know what I remember this

[00:18:26] movie it was like one of the first kind of I don't know if it was R-rated but it wasn't appropriate for

[00:18:32] six-year-old me I can tell you that. American guitarist and singer Lindsey Buckingham was

[00:18:37] approached by Harold Ramis who asked him to create two songs for Ramis's film National Lampoon's

[00:18:43] Vacation. Initially reluctant believing the soundtrack work wasn't part of his discipline

[00:18:48] he ultimately decided to honor Ramis's request. Here's the interesting part Buckingham recorded

[00:18:53] Holiday Road without seeing the entire film although he inferred the movie had to be somewhat

[00:18:58] uplifting and a little bit funny as such he added dog barks near the end of the song unaware

[00:19:03] the movie featured a scene where a dog is accidentally dragged to death from the bumper

[00:19:06] of a car. That's funny yeah that's funny is this song a Christmas song? No this song is a Christmas

[00:19:11] song the way Die Hard is a Christmas movie like it's all Christmas adjacent. Oh boy no no no that

[00:19:19] is not a fair comparison. Someday I will die and on my headstone I will like it to read. Die Hard

[00:19:27] is a movie that takes place at Christmas. Yeah but this song is more of a vacation song that's

[00:19:33] the holiday right? It is but for some reason it has turned into what's considered a Christmas song

[00:19:39] I guess because it has the word holiday in it. I don't know you know it's like though those people

[00:19:43] on one of those stations they play Madonna's Holiday as a Christmas song uh-uh absolutely

[00:19:48] unacceptable and I've tweeted at them several times about it no response. It is this song is

[00:19:54] five percent more of a Christmas song than Hallelujah. It's it's it is more but uh it's

[00:20:02] still not a Christmas song and nevertheless let's get to the uh the entries here. Up first we have

[00:20:07] Holiday Road by UGA Accidentals.

[00:20:37] This seems like a good time to bring up the Scott Newman theory of acapella music it automatically

[00:21:14] gets a three percent bump over. I think you're right it's nice it's like everybody's bobbing

[00:21:21] you're just driving down the road and listening to the show bobbing it's nice it's nice yeah.

[00:21:24] Up next we got Holiday Road by Excelsia.

[00:22:26] This is a uh very thin comparison Bram but it gave me some Brian Setzer feels there just the

[00:22:31] way the music was being played I liked that. Yeah it could have used a horn that's for sure

[00:22:37] but I liked it it was nice. I think the next one has horn are you ready? I would assume so

[00:22:41] because this next version is by the Aquabats. Shut it down everybody we know who won this week.

[00:23:41] Oh wow wow wow I don't know I think this might be closer than you uh when you're letting on

[00:23:46] there Scotty but we'll see I think it could be a close one I did like that one a lot I love

[00:23:50] the it's kind of like a double time verse with a half-time chorus there it was nice

[00:23:54] it's real nice. That was really cool we got listener submissions this week from Joe W,

[00:23:59] listener Karen, Lenora Gilbert, Lance Garman, listener Andre and Frank Napier. Thank you all

[00:24:05] so much for submitting. You get two weeks and people start really come out of the woodwork I

[00:24:10] didn't think it would be Holiday Road that would bring them out but apparently listen I'm fine being

[00:24:15] in the minority here of people that aren't high on this song yeah well you know what sometimes

[00:24:20] we just have to get through the songs we did Dominic the donkey you didn't like that.

[00:24:24] You're right uh you know what I do like though is original Christmas music next week is

[00:24:31] second Wednesday which means it is original Christmas music week Scotty. You know I even

[00:24:36] looked at the calendar and I said nope it's not it calendars are hard it's it's uh it is June 5th

[00:24:43] there's no way it's the first Wednesday there's no way it's impossible well I forgot I was thinking

[00:24:49] what is the next week yeah so it's hard right I'm out of practice we were gone for an entire week

[00:24:55] we don't normally do that this is hard no this is hard that is the most time I've spent away from you

[00:25:01] in a very long time that's true and I'm gonna see you next month yeah uh so please go to Bandcamp

[00:25:07] find some original Christmas music and send it on over we I love this week personally I think

[00:25:12] it's grown on you Scotty. It's grown on me a bit my favorite is instrumental week the following week

[00:25:17] yeah that's a good week it's all fun you know it's like pizza even bad pizza it's good pizza

[00:25:22] right uh and please everybody June 25th is going to be here before you know it that is halfway

[00:25:29] to Christmas everyone so it's going to be a very special Christmas party episode because we're

[00:25:34] halfway there we will love for you to send in some stuff for the Christmas party episode go ahead and

[00:25:40] and get in on it you can send whatever you want to um we love it when people send in audio but

[00:25:45] you don't have to because we know how to read we can read emails well Scott knows how to read yeah

[00:25:50] and the following month is going to be the live Christmas party episode from Bramblefest I hope

[00:25:57] we have things like the recorder concert which was awesome so Lynn Austin please bring those

[00:26:02] recorders again that was so much fun it's just a blast every month is a blast though we have the

[00:26:06] best listeners in the world and it's so much fun and I love you buddy I'm so glad you're home

[00:26:10] that marks the first time anybody on record has requested recorders yeah and as the parent of

[00:26:16] an elementary school kid it would be rare for someone like that to request a recorder look at

[00:26:22] you that's how fun it was last last year uh Scotty it was great to be back with you I can't wait

[00:26:28] to do it again next week until then Merry Christmas you're about to hear some ads that help pay for

[00:26:43] our trip back and forth to the North Pole feel free to listen feel free to bail now but either way

[00:26:49] thanks for being here ho ho ho
