[00:00:02] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast.

[00:00:05] Live from the North Pole, it's time for Christmas Morning.

[00:00:17] The Daily Show where every day is Christmas.

[00:00:22] Here are your hosts, Brann and Scott.

[00:00:31] Well, hello everybody, it's your good friend Brann.

[00:00:35] I'm back, I'm land bound and I'm joined by my friend Scott.

[00:00:40] Scott, Merry Christmas.

[00:00:41] Merry Christmas Brandon, you sound a little under the weather buddy.

[00:00:44] Oh, I'm fine, I'm fine.

[00:00:46] Did I bring a flu home with me from the Seven Seas?

[00:00:50] Or I guess I was in only one of the seas but yes, yes I did.

[00:00:54] I'm getting over it but man, the flu is brutal this year so anybody who has had it,

[00:01:00] I stand with you, anyone who has not had it, I envy you.

[00:01:04] I used to be you and now I'm not.

[00:01:06] It's not the post-Christmas present you were hoping for huh?

[00:01:09] No, no, no not at all but I listened back to last week's episode with you and Alonzo

[00:01:15] and you all did a lovely job in my stead so thank you to Alonzo for filling in.

[00:01:20] He's always so good no matter what he does.

[00:01:23] The fact that he continues to come on these shows that we do is just,

[00:01:27] he's too good, he's too good for us.

[00:01:29] It was very kind of him to be here, fill in for you.

[00:01:32] We missed you.

[00:01:33] I missed you, I missed you.

[00:01:35] I enjoyed listening to Christmas Morning in the middle of the, what is that, Caribbean?

[00:01:40] By the Bahamas, I was in the Bahamas and I'm listening to Christmas Morning so there you go.

[00:01:45] You and I very rarely miss an episode and I think we're about even on that

[00:01:50] and I don't know about you but it's very weird to listen to the show when you're not on it.

[00:01:55] It's a good show though.

[00:01:56] Oh it's fun.

[00:01:57] I was like, I would listen to this show if it was just you and Alonzo, it's a good show.

[00:02:02] That's right.

[00:02:03] But I think this feels right, this feels right you and me.

[00:02:05] Well this feels right and I'm glad you're back.

[00:02:07] I've got some emails, you want to hear some?

[00:02:09] Please do.

[00:02:10] Letters, we get letters, we get stacks and stacks of letters.

[00:02:17] I've got an email from Matt James, he says just to thank you

[00:02:20] I found this podcast last October along with Tinseltunes and the Total Christmas Podcast.

[00:02:25] Wow.

[00:02:26] A whole Christmas community I didn't know existed, 50 weeks until Christmas seems so far away

[00:02:31] but when I listen to your podcast it feels just a little bit closer.

[00:02:35] Keep up the great work.

[00:02:36] Well thank you Matt, I'm glad you found all those.

[00:02:38] What a treasure trove there, brand of shows.

[00:02:41] That is a whole lot of Christmas content and specifically a whole lot of Scott.

[00:02:45] There's a lot of Scott.

[00:02:46] There's a lot of Scott going on in there.

[00:02:48] Between Christmas morning and Tinseltunes you'll be set for life.

[00:02:51] Yeah, I've been on Total Christmas Podcast like half a dozen times at this point.

[00:02:55] That's true.

[00:02:56] I also have an email from Jackie Schrauger, she says hopefully you're able to see the attached video.

[00:03:01] A few days before Christmas 2023 my husband who was a professional musician

[00:03:06] decided he should learn to play Mariah Carey's classic song.

[00:03:09] Our dog responded by scratching the back door trying to get outside and away from it.

[00:03:15] She must be tired of it too. Thanks for the Christmas feels.

[00:03:18] Brand can you see this video?

[00:03:20] Yeah, it's funny.

[00:03:22] I'm gonna post that on our Instagram.

[00:03:24] It gave me a really good laugh.

[00:03:26] Me and the dog, we both want away from that song.

[00:03:28] The dog is not having it.

[00:03:29] The dog is not having it.

[00:03:31] But I kudos to your husband, is it husband?

[00:03:35] Yeah, for trying to learn that song.

[00:03:38] It is like on the piano, it is a challenging song.

[00:03:41] There's lots going on there.

[00:03:42] I did that classic which you hear a little bit in the video but to start the song.

[00:03:49] It's a fun song to learn, I'm sure.

[00:03:51] Maybe we can get him to do some music for one of our party episodes.

[00:03:54] I think that's a pretty good idea, Scotty.

[00:03:56] I'd love that Jackie plant a seed.

[00:03:58] That's exactly right.

[00:03:59] Brand, how are we doing in the review department?

[00:04:01] We're doing good, Scotty.

[00:04:03] I think we're at 235 which is kind of like right around where we were last week.

[00:04:08] Up one from where we were last week.

[00:04:10] That's right, yes.

[00:04:11] So last week you read Penny Lisa.

[00:04:14] That's right.

[00:04:15] And you read a five star gift for the ears.

[00:04:18] Yep.

[00:04:19] But there's more to that review and it's a very sweet review and I didn't want to let it pass by.

[00:04:24] I didn't want Penny Lisa to be like...

[00:04:26] Did you not send me the whole review?

[00:04:27] Because that's all I had.

[00:04:28] I don't know what happened but I...

[00:04:30] You know what?

[00:04:31] You were whisking out the door to go hobnob with celebrities and you were not thinking about this show, Brandon.

[00:04:37] But I want to read Penny Lisa's full review because it's beautiful and then I'll also read one more.

[00:04:44] I was happy with a five star gift for the ears.

[00:04:46] It's a great line, right?

[00:04:48] That's just whole review though.

[00:04:50] The Christmas Morning Podcast has become an indispensable part of our holiday traditions.

[00:04:56] Ooh.

[00:04:57] Give me time.

[00:04:59] Its festive episodes have the power to transport us to a world of warmth, joy and holiday spirit.

[00:05:06] This is going to be every line, dude.

[00:05:08] I'm just so sorry.

[00:05:10] Brandon's not crying.

[00:05:12] He's dying.

[00:05:13] It was the first day out of bed, man.

[00:05:15] Alright.

[00:05:16] Each episode feels like unwrapping a present filled with delightful seasonal cheer.

[00:05:21] Brandon Scott's infectious enthusiasm and carefully curated content make it our new favorite Christmas tradition.

[00:05:30] Five stars without a doubt, a perfect gift for the ears about the most wonderful time of the year all year long.

[00:05:38] And I just thought it was too beautiful not to read that whole thing.

[00:05:41] So I'm sorry for double-dipping and giving Penny Lisa two weeks worth of shoutouts.

[00:05:46] No, that's okay.

[00:05:47] That was wonderful.

[00:05:49] What a very nice thing to say.

[00:05:50] The sentiment was lovely.

[00:05:52] A beautiful writer, Penny Lisa.

[00:05:54] Yeah.

[00:05:55] After how much time it took me to read that one, I'm going to save the next one for next week.

[00:06:01] That's not the only infectious part of the show today.

[00:06:04] You got a joke for us?

[00:06:05] I do.

[00:06:06] What do you call it when Santa takes a break?

[00:06:09] Ooh.

[00:06:10] Santa...

[00:06:12] He's going on a chimney break.

[00:06:15] No, it's Santa pause.

[00:06:17] Walk out, walk out.

[00:06:19] Oh my gosh, Santa pause.

[00:06:21] We don't front load the year with the really good jokes, do we?

[00:06:29] Santa pause.

[00:06:30] I've heard that as a punchline for like a dog-related joke.

[00:06:34] So to hear it in another vein...

[00:06:36] Oh yeah, yeah.

[00:06:37] That would be P-A-W-S, not P-A-U-S-E.

[00:06:41] Yes, yes.

[00:06:42] This was good.

[00:06:43] It was a different use case.

[00:06:44] Not good.

[00:06:45] Not good.

[00:06:46] Let's do the countdown.

[00:06:47] Okay.

[00:06:53] 343 days until Christmas!

[00:06:57] You know I had to.

[00:06:59] 49 weeks, folks.

[00:07:00] The days.

[00:07:01] I had to go with the days.

[00:07:02] You know I had to.

[00:07:03] Well that's okay.

[00:07:04] Why don't you do the days?

[00:07:05] I'll do the weeks.

[00:07:06] Yes, yes, yes.

[00:07:07] That's our thing.

[00:07:08] Now I have more to do around here.

[00:07:09] It's nice we're under 50 weeks now, which is nice.

[00:07:13] Well, sure.

[00:07:14] It's not nothing.

[00:07:16] You're right.

[00:07:17] It's not nothing.

[00:07:18] Also not nothing.

[00:07:19] Only 258 days until October 1st.

[00:07:24] Hold on, I'm trying to find the sound.

[00:07:26] I've lost the sound?

[00:07:28] Oh.

[00:07:29] Found it.

[00:07:31] Come on man, we gotta take anything we can get.

[00:07:34] That's only 37 weeks.

[00:07:36] Woooo, October!

[00:07:38] My wife has been actively taking down all of the Christmas decorations and I've been

[00:07:43] of the opinion, well we're gonna put them back up so just leave them.

[00:07:46] She's not having that.

[00:07:48] Yeah, I gotta be honest my indoor stuff is still up.

[00:07:51] I think it's coming down this weekend but we were gonna take it down before the

[00:07:54] cruise and then it just didn't happen and then the cruise happened and then we

[00:07:57] came home and we both got the flu so it'll happen when it happens but I'm

[00:08:02] also not upset about it.

[00:08:03] Hey as long as it's down by Valentine's Day you're doing fine.

[00:08:06] Yeah.

[00:08:07] There's no problem there.

[00:08:08] Thank you.

[00:08:09] Thank you.

[00:08:10] You mind reading some news for us?

[00:08:11] I have some news.

[00:08:12] Yeah let's do it.

[00:08:19] Today is January 17th.

[00:08:22] Here's the news.

[00:08:24] Let's go to Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

[00:08:27] Isn't that a fun name?

[00:08:29] Oshkosh.

[00:08:30] Yeah big air show there every year.

[00:08:31] Big air show.

[00:08:32] Big kids toy company.

[00:08:36] Oshkosh, McGosh.

[00:08:38] Oh wow I never put those two together but it seems obvious.

[00:08:41] Please continue.

[00:08:42] I'm actually not like 100% confident.

[00:08:45] I don't think it's a name you would pick just on a whim.

[00:08:47] Go ahead.

[00:08:48] I'm like one of the odds.

[00:08:49] Yes anyway.

[00:08:50] A kid, his name is Brody.

[00:08:54] He's 14 years old and he loves Christmas lights.

[00:08:59] He loves decorating his house for Christmas and he does a nice display.

[00:09:04] Every year he puts this together.

[00:09:07] I don't know how long he's been doing it.

[00:09:09] He's only 14 but kids are smart these days.

[00:09:11] You know you give a baby an iPad and they instantly know what to do now.

[00:09:15] That's kind of like with this 14 year old.

[00:09:17] He apparently just knows how to do Christmas lights displays.

[00:09:20] Oh they got the YouTubes and stuff.

[00:09:22] That's right.

[00:09:23] Since 2019 he has been doing this.

[00:09:27] Every year he raises money and since 2019 he's donated more than $19,000 to area charities

[00:09:34] including this year where he raised $6,700 to the Oshkosh Kids Foundation.

[00:09:42] So all the kids out there that are listening to this show,

[00:09:46] maybe this can be your inspiration this year to go out,

[00:09:50] learn some Christmas light coating and raise money for kids in need in your area.

[00:09:56] I thought that was a really heartwarming story of someone not waiting until they're older to do it

[00:10:00] but taking it into their own hands and doing it right now.

[00:10:03] I love that.

[00:10:04] The next generation of Christmas light folks and people doing right by others.

[00:10:09] I love that.

[00:10:10] By and large kids are the worst.

[00:10:12] This kid?

[00:10:13] Not one of them.

[00:10:14] You go Brody.

[00:10:15] Well we don't know that.

[00:10:16] We don't know what he does every day.

[00:10:17] At least at Christmas.

[00:10:20] What do you think he balances out his charity donations with street crime or something?

[00:10:25] Dude.

[00:10:26] Probably not.

[00:10:27] He's a villain.

[00:10:28] Sorry Brody.

[00:10:29] Brody if you're listening to this, I love you buddy.

[00:10:31] You're doing a great job.

[00:10:32] Yeah you're not a villain.

[00:10:33] You're doing a great job.

[00:10:34] Yeah we'd love to talk to you.

[00:10:35] I hope you're listening.

[00:10:36] Probably not.

[00:10:37] Alright, why don't we take a break so Bran can, I don't know, use the neti pot or something

[00:10:43] and get back to semi-functioning.

[00:10:45] Here on Christmas morning.

[00:10:47] We're back.

[00:10:52] Oh my gosh, I am excited because I haven't watched anything Christmas related in weeks

[00:11:00] now Scotty.

[00:11:01] But I have.

[00:11:02] I just texted you over the weekend while my wife was taking down Christmas.

[00:11:05] Here's a little tip here for husbands out there.

[00:11:08] If your wife is doing something that's a ton of work and you have nothing to do with it

[00:11:13] because I'm not allowed to put things in boxes.

[00:11:15] I am way too sloppy.

[00:11:16] I didn't want her to be all by herself doing it.

[00:11:19] That's a pretty crummy thing.

[00:11:20] So I said why don't we watch a Hallmark movie that I haven't watched because she likes to

[00:11:24] watch lots of them.

[00:11:25] So I watched round and round.

[00:11:27] It was phenomenal.

[00:11:29] What a great movie that was.

[00:11:31] Good on you for being on the right side of history here Scotty.

[00:11:35] Yeah I try.

[00:11:36] I know that hasn't always been your track record when it comes to the Hallmark.

[00:11:41] I learned.

[00:11:42] You did learn.

[00:11:43] Let's get to the TV listings.

[00:11:46] It looks like a nice little crop this week for the middle of January.

[00:13:04] for the next couple of days courtesy of mostly Christmas dot com.

[00:13:08] Thank you TV Scotty.

[00:13:10] Let's get to the Christmas music battle.

[00:13:14] Let's do it.

[00:13:15] We had a quite the selection last week for songs for original Christmas songs

[00:13:22] on the band camp.

[00:13:24] Let's get to it is a tight race at the top not super tight at the bottom and last place

[00:13:30] is the Kentucky Fried Christmas by Randy Taylor Randy Taylor also in the name of the son

[00:13:38] and home improvement played by Jonathan Taylor Thomas unrelated I believe unrelated we knew this song

[00:13:44] wasn't probably going to win but what a funny little song what a quirky song

[00:13:50] thank you for bringing it along so I really appreciate that up next and third place is

[00:13:56] I'll be home for Christmas if I can be there by the oh hello's

[00:14:02] I also know they get some big surprise I brought this I love the folky I love banjo's

[00:14:09] I like it I'm a fan you're a sucker for songs where there are more than one vocal law

[00:14:17] you know vocal at the same time yeah like gang vocals oh yeah this kind of sing-along

[00:14:22] kind of thing yep and I can see that I've been in the same room singing along with you

[00:14:26] it's a treat it's a good time alright in second place losing by only a single vote

[00:14:35] this is why we say every book matters it's Christmas time let's have some fun

[00:14:43] by what is it Cyril Neville Cyril Neville and the Neville family this was brought to us by Chris Colpac I believe

[00:14:50] I heard what you said on the show last week about being trying to avoid family bands and I do the same

[00:14:57] but this is a good lesson to maybe not this one would have scared me and I would have missed it

[00:15:03] what a cool funky song I love it really good song really liked it a good lesson to not let your bias

[00:15:10] carry away you might you might miss some good music yeah but well you know what they'll bring if there's

[00:15:15] a picture of a kid on the cover art and it says family you just go right by that one uh-huh

[00:15:21] that means the winner is a blues for Santa by Emma Smith a great track it's the vocals for me

[00:15:33] I loved it just loved it I brought it and when I heard it I said I've got to bring this one

[00:15:38] Scott here's the thing you don't like you your original Christmas music week is not your favorite week

[00:15:45] and it's because it's they're hard to find but that's one of the best tracks I've heard in some time

[00:15:51] yeah that is one of the better originals that I've it sounded like it didn't sound like what I would think of as an original

[00:15:58] sometimes you think of them as kind of second rate this was not yeah I thought it was a pretty good crop last week

[00:16:04] and I think the voters saw that too because it's a pretty close race overall it was real close

[00:16:09] there was a lot to vote for to spread the vote around so so that great great battle good good start to the year

[00:16:14] I think was that our first official battle first official battle yeah because old leg Zion technically went to last year

[00:16:20] all right so I'm I'm already in the lead might as well stop it right here guys come on he won the holiday season

[00:16:27] let's shut it down right now shut her down are you gonna trivia for us before we dive into some instrumentals

[00:16:33] I do it's because it's instrumental obviously we're we don't have trivia specific to a song but I found this little one-liner

[00:16:39] and I thought it was neat we wish you a merry Christmas is one of the oldest secular Christmas songs originating in the 16th century

[00:16:48] interesting yeah big big figgy pudding fans in the 16th century yeah that's a I mean 500 plus years that's pretty amazing

[00:16:56] that is amazing you don't think of songs being that old obviously they are but it's hard for my brain to put those two together

[00:17:02] it could be 500 it could be 5000 I honestly what is time what are years I know it's a social construct I mean dude like the

[00:17:11] freaking I'm and I'm not 80s are like it's something early 80s 40 years ago that kind of stuff having a child is bizarre to me

[00:17:21] like think about to the 80s to them was 40 years ago that means when I was in elementary school that was the 40s to me

[00:17:29] and yeah that's like ancient times yeah yeah that's well anyway we're doing fine we're not that's right well I'll be dead in 25 years

[00:17:39] this is great it is instrumental week the third Wednesday of every month the we have three different songs obviously the listeners

[00:17:48] brought some as well first we got O'comolley faithful by Diego string breaker wow what a name

[00:17:56] hmm a surf guitar track I wonder who could have possibly brought that one weird I've never heard that before yeah

[00:19:06] up next we have we three Kings by Spencer Cape year I really like that one brand gotta be honest you don't hear a lot of

[00:20:12] versions of we three Kings that make you go yeah yeah this is a this is a jam have we battled we three Kings before

[00:20:21] I don't know why don't you check Christmas morning podcast dot com slash song check that out you check that out while I introduce

[00:20:28] Hark the Herald Angels sing by the Charter string band

[00:21:09] little Irish diddy or Celtic I'm not sure not only have we done we three Kings before this is honestly crazy we did we

[00:21:16] three Kings January 18th 2023 almost year to the date a year ago that's wild wow it's you know what when you get into a groove

[00:21:27] it's not necessarily a rut I'm like is in my am I feeling we three Kings because we've never done it before because it's just

[00:21:35] that time of the year where I decide I like we three Kings I don't know three great songs today please yes

[00:21:41] the link of the show description vote vote vote I do want to mention we have listener submissions this week from Brad Adams

[00:21:47] and Lenora Gilbert thank you both if it wasn't for you too we'd have nothing and I'd be singing the song of shame right now

[00:21:53] instrumentally though now next week is not instrumental and it's not original so this is going to be the first regular

[00:22:01] battle I don't have a word for yeah yeah no I think that's that's good we have quite the backlog right now on the

[00:22:07] backlog we have Donde esta Santa Claus Christmas Island holiday road baby it's cold outside do you hear what I hear

[00:22:14] underneath the tree Father Christmas from the Kings Christmas give me some money I believe in Father Christmas

[00:22:23] I'll be home for Christmas and angels we have heard on high so Drew basic and Lee Hodo have really coming in clutch here

[00:22:30] filling up the backlog and when I mentioned Donde esta Santa Claus last week friend of the show era Evans wrote in

[00:22:37] and she said I would love to hear that song battled now that doesn't mean we have to do it this week brand if anything else

[00:22:44] is striking your fancy but I wanted to bring it up I like it I think we should do it let's do it that's a different

[00:22:49] one that I'm not what I am really interested to see what people do with that song because I only think of it as

[00:22:56] the original and I don't remember the name of the artist it was a famous I don't know if I've ever heard another version

[00:23:02] Mama see that nailed it yep that's the only part I remember well I'm a Donde esta Santa Claus I mean the title of

[00:23:09] the song is the next line I don't I don't remember past that is what I meant you know what else is happening next

[00:23:14] week is our first Christmas party episode oh my goodness I know next Thursday we need emails we need content

[00:23:24] I do have a bunch of stuff stored up from the holidays great but like listener Jackie whose husband is a professional
