[00:02:38] So if I hid in the bushes and I had a boombox and played Reliant K

[00:02:42] You wouldn't say turn that off any day that uh, I get to stumble into the Reliant K Christmas album is a good day

[00:02:49] But regardless of what day of the year

[00:03:21] I feel I echo the thoughts of your listeners and saying thank you

[00:03:25] For continuing to fill our lives with Christmas vibes throughout the year

[00:03:29] I find myself checking multiple times a week for a new episode now that you're back off daily podcast

[00:03:33] So the recent party episode was well received. I guess he sent this in january

[00:03:37] Okay, I actually have a queue of questions for you

[00:03:40] But the most pressing as a brit is my curiosity towards the copious recurring references to santa's christmas cookies

[00:03:48] Which are not a thing in england. I infer they may be a treat left for him when he drops off presents

[00:03:54] Uh, he says I think I think he's missing out over here

[00:03:57] In the uk they're not as ubiquitous a gift and we tend towards a classic carrot for rudolf and a mince pie and brandy for good old

[00:04:04] St. Nick is there a commonly regarded recipe for these cookies state side so I can make something or does anything go

[00:04:12] Love love love the show and the never-ending enthusiasm. What are your thoughts on this brand as a cookie expert?

[00:04:17] Well, first of all, thank you. Thank you very much phil. I am honestly shocked

[00:04:21] That

[00:04:22] Even though i'm aware that the mince pie

[00:04:26] Happens over there. I'm shocked that the lore of the cookie hasn't made its way over. I feel like you see

[00:04:33] Cookies in christmas movies, but maybe the movies that you see them in or I don't know

[00:04:37] Yeah, we're not watching british christmas movies really it's true. It's true. So uh, nevertheless. Yeah, I think it is um

[00:04:44] Whatever your family's christmas cookies. I don't think that there is a set

[00:04:50] Uh cookie for santa. So like our family we make a sugar cookie with frosting and sprinkles and whatnot

[00:04:56] But I know other people that like do the gingerbread and other people do the like there's all sorts of different things

[00:05:01] And I think a lot of that is tradition

[00:05:04] Based off of what you made as a kid with your family. So best to my knowledge, there is not a set specific santa cookie

[00:05:13] Uh, but I could be wrong. Did you know about the mince pie in the brandy?

[00:05:16] When he said it I recalled that it was a bit of information that I knew

[00:05:20] So I maybe would have been able to answer it in a trivia competition if push came to shove

[00:05:25] But yeah, I don't think he's missing out. I think the brandy I think makes up for

[00:05:30] The lack of cookie and then by the time he gets over uh stateside

[00:05:33] He's he's ready for ready for some dessert. So as a person who has attended santa training

[00:05:38] I can say the brandy is a great extra. Yeah, well 100

[00:05:42] You may not know this about me brand, but I'm a bit of an expert on British culture. Okay

[00:05:47] I've been taking a British culture course

[00:05:49] Uh via the tv for a while. I have a clip. Are you ready? I'm ready

[00:05:57] Why are these chimneys always so sute?

[00:06:01] Ah, I see someone's left me a mince pie and a drink

[00:06:12] That of course is from my favorite uh transmitter of British culture the peppa pig show the peppa pig

[00:06:21] That's exactly right. Uh, yeah, I mean if you're not picking up I I've learned uh from bluey that in australia

[00:06:28] Apparently the christmas swim is a big part of australian culture. So there you go

[00:06:34] That's funny jack ford on the total christmas podcast was just talking about the christmas swim of just last weekend

[00:06:40] There you go. We're not going to do it here in denver. No, I don't think it's going to take off over there

[00:06:45] Although a heated pool maybe uh, maybe might be worth doing

[00:06:49] I don't think that's in the the spirit of the christmas swim. But anyway, uh, thank you phil for that

[00:07:41] I love all the segments including tv listings. The music in the background. It was a nice addition by the way

[00:07:47] But the christmas music battles are probably my favorite part me too

[00:07:51] I've discovered so many new and wonderful songs or versions of songs this way

[00:08:46] There's a whole world out here and I listened again to your episodes like reruns on christmas eve while I was building

[00:08:55] Some gift

[00:08:57] And it was really fun. I have very distinct memories of that. I'm always with you scott

[00:11:19] We talk about christmas trees and all different ways in which you can get christmas trees throughout the year

[00:11:24] You know, you can go into a forest and you can get it for cheap or blah blah blah

[00:11:28] That's right. $5 coupons or something out there in new Mexico or something one of the things I haven't really explored much of is

[00:11:36] the christmas tree

[00:11:39] Markets in like big cities like new york city when you walk down the street and there's a christmas tree stand

[00:11:45] There's a christmas tree stand and they're just kind of like plopped on sidewalks and stuff like that

[00:11:51] It is if you've ever been to new york around the holiday season you see these

[00:11:55] Christmas tree lots all over the place and I have found myself wondering

[00:12:01] How lucrative is this to do this year after year? How much money can you possibly make?

[00:12:06] So you're talking about the business of christmas tree sales, right? The business

[00:12:10] Yes, especially in such a you got this giant city

[00:12:14] And of course you need more than one christmas tree lot, but you have so many they're like on every corner

[00:12:19] Do they all make it? Yeah

[00:12:21] Well, we'll have to ask our friend jacks about that, but I'm assuming if you don't have a car

[00:12:25] You probably want to go to a very close christmas tree vendor. You're not going to walk an extra seven blocks with a tree, right?

[00:12:30] That's that's true. That's true

[00:12:32] That's what this new documentary is all about that's coming out this holiday season

[00:12:36] the documentary is going to follow five different families who are

[00:12:40] A part of selling these christmas trees in the big city

[00:12:44] The how they get the trees how they hustle to sell the trees

[00:12:49] How much they need in order to make it make sense?

[00:12:52] And that's what it's going to be all about is called the merchants of joy

[00:12:56] And it is a love letter to the people that make christmas happen in new york city year after year

[00:13:01] It sounds like a lot of fun. I'm interested to see kind of the business side of

[00:13:07] Of of this operation. There's obviously a lot that goes into it and I my guess would be we have five different families

[00:13:13] I imagine we will get five very different stories

[00:13:17] Coming out of this so it's very interesting. I don't think that there is a release date yet for this

[00:13:21] Oh, I was hoping you were going to say it was already out because strangely

[00:13:25] I'm really excited about hearing this because as you just said this is something I've never really even given consideration to before

[00:13:31] Never thought about it. That's that's true. I haven't either. I see them and I'm like, wow, that's happening

[00:13:37] um, but I don't know

[00:13:39] I'm interested to see what happens. Yeah, I don't think that there's a release date for it yet, but I'll keep you posted

[00:13:47] But this was an idea that I saw and I was like I gotta bring this to the podcast because it's such an interesting idea for a

[00:13:52] Documentary what if we watch it and we get hooked on the idea and all of a sudden you and I are out there

[00:13:59] Well, but that's the thing like with like we obviously have more than one christmas tree lot in greenville

[00:14:05] But they're spread out so like sure you kind of you have one that's closer to you and the like but in there

[00:14:10] There's so many of them. There's so many. Yeah, then you want to go to the good one. You don't want to go to the bad

[00:14:15] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[00:14:16] So like I imagine you'll in this documentary you'll have the one family that's been doing it forever

[00:14:20] You'll have another family that's like wanting to get into it. This is their first year

[00:14:23] That's what i'm guessing something like that like all sorts of different stories

[00:14:27] Can be told to these five families

[00:14:29] So i'm excited about it the merchants of joy if you want to write it down and and save that and
