[00:00:02] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast

[00:00:11] It's the Christmas Morning Podcast

[00:00:14] Everyone join if you can

[00:00:18] Christmas greatest fans

[00:00:20] Scott and Bram

[00:00:23] Here for you and me

[00:00:25] Yes, it is. Hello everybody. Welcome to another episode of Christmas Morning.

[00:00:30] It's Bram. It's Scott. Scott, Merry Christmas.

[00:00:34] Merry Christmas. Happy Thursday.

[00:00:35] Happy Thursday. Indeed. I can't believe it's already Thursday. This week is flying by.

[00:00:42] But let's not dwell on it too much. We've got a lot to get to, including a little mailbag action.

[00:00:47] All right, let's open it up.

[00:00:49] Letters. We get letters. We get stacks and stacks of letters.

[00:00:55] I've got an email from Cece Ponce. Cece says,

[00:00:59] Hello to all my fine holiday loving gents and my forever girl crush Shannon.

[00:01:03] Oh, that's nice.

[00:01:04] Leaving that one alone.

[00:01:04] I know people like to write in with their excitement at the first sightings of Christmas decor in the retail outlets of this great nation.

[00:01:11] Wow, this is prose, Bram. Oh my gosh.

[00:01:14] And while this excites me, I write today to tell you about a specific segment of that decor that I am particularly fond of.

[00:01:21] Black Santa.

[00:01:22] Growing up with a diverse friend group meant seeing images of Black Santa Claus in my friends' houses in early life.

[00:01:29] I was immediately fascinated by the imagery and how much it meant to see an image of Santa Claus that looked like them.

[00:01:35] I learned in college how Black Santa was an important image in the civil rights movement in the 1960s as well.

[00:01:42] Until the last 10 years, I never saw a black Santa in the suburbs.

[00:01:47] Downtown in D.C. sure, but not here in the burbs of the nation's capital.

[00:01:52] I always had to order Black Santa items online until about five years ago when I finally started seeing one or two trinkets trickle into brick and mortar stores here, mostly in Michael's stores and in Mr. Christmas brand items.

[00:02:04] I'm happy to say this year I have already seen five Black Santa statues at stores and it's not even Halloween.

[00:02:10] Like they say, representation matters and I just love seeing diverse depictions of Santa in stores these days.

[00:02:18] It truly makes my heart warm.

[00:02:20] Good luck with the daily shows.

[00:02:21] We are in the thick of it now, boys.

[00:02:24] I like that, Bram.

[00:02:25] I like remembering that representation matters.

[00:02:28] I thought that was a beautiful CC and it is something that I've also thought about.

[00:02:35] In the past few years, it's something that I didn't grow up with a very diverse friend group.

[00:02:40] And so it was something that I literally never thought about until I was an adult.

[00:02:45] And so I also agree.

[00:02:46] I have seen more of it and I think it's wonderful.

[00:02:49] More of that, please.

[00:02:50] Yes.

[00:02:51] More of that, please.

[00:02:52] More of that.

[00:02:53] You got a joke.

[00:02:55] Oh, wait, hold on.

[00:02:55] Hold on, Scotty.

[00:02:56] I got to get to some chocolate.

[00:02:58] I got to get to some chocolate.

[00:02:59] Yesterday we did not open up Jimmy's bag of treats.

[00:03:03] Jimmy's bag of treats will be opened.

[00:03:05] We gave my blood sugar a rest for one day, but I'm bounced back.

[00:03:09] I opened this one up, Scotty.

[00:03:11] This is that chocolate, that chocolate bar.

[00:03:14] And you can immediately smell something different.

[00:03:18] It's orange.

[00:03:20] I'm not going to lie.

[00:03:21] I was so intrigued.

[00:03:22] I opened it.

[00:03:23] I took a little taste.

[00:03:24] My wife wanted to steal the whole bar.

[00:03:27] She loves it.

[00:03:29] I know I'm bringing this home to my wife.

[00:03:32] It's reminiscent of those chocolate oranges that you can smash and take little segments

[00:03:37] out.

[00:03:37] It's a lot like that.

[00:03:38] So give it a try.

[00:03:39] This is a brand called Marabu.

[00:03:42] I don't know if I'm saying that correctly, but, and then there's some words here that

[00:03:46] I'm not even going to try because I can barely speak English, but I'm going to give this a

[00:03:49] shot.

[00:03:49] I'm very excited about it.

[00:03:50] It has a profound orange flavor.

[00:03:52] It is so, so good.

[00:03:54] And the thing is, if you're mixing orange with chocolate, I want it to be front and center.

[00:03:58] I don't want a tiny little hint of it.

[00:04:00] And that is not what you get anyway with this thing.

[00:04:02] It is so good.

[00:04:04] I cannot imagine eating a whole bar though.

[00:04:06] That is really good.

[00:04:07] That's the best thing.

[00:04:09] Can you imagine that with a hot chocolate or something?

[00:04:12] Wow.

[00:04:12] Actually, let's be honest.

[00:04:13] A bourbon or a brandy like with that, that would be good.

[00:04:18] I want to go ahead and try this other chocolate.

[00:04:20] Yeah, do that.

[00:04:20] Because I want to do all the marshmallows tomorrow.

[00:04:22] I think it's going to be similar to the other poly, the poly yule scum.

[00:04:27] Yeah.

[00:04:27] The ones that look like little bonbons.

[00:04:29] I don't have this one.

[00:04:30] This is some more yule scum, but this is.

[00:04:32] Oh, it's not the bonbon shaped one.

[00:04:34] This one looks like a star.

[00:04:35] It's a shooting star.

[00:04:36] Same thing though.

[00:04:37] And I remembered what I was trying to think of yesterday.

[00:04:40] Charleston chew was the candy I was trying to think of.

[00:04:43] That was a marshmallow bar with chocolate around it.

[00:04:47] It's very similar in texture.

[00:04:48] It's like a more dense marshmallow.

[00:04:51] So this is more of your traditional just chocolate around marshmallow.

[00:04:56] The poly one had that fruit flavor to it.

[00:05:00] I think this would be my preference.

[00:05:02] I like it a lot.

[00:05:04] I think the fruit flavor, I just need to try it, that cherry or whatever.

[00:05:08] I just need to try it some more to see if I really would eat a lot of it.

[00:05:11] But I would eat a lot of this.

[00:05:12] This is very good.

[00:05:13] Two great chocolates.

[00:05:14] It's really, really good.

[00:05:15] And one of the things that stands out to me is we don't have a lot of candies like this in the U.S.

[00:05:20] You don't come across marshmallow wrapped in chocolate all that much.

[00:05:24] They're part of other things.

[00:05:26] But you'd have to try this to understand exactly what I mean.

[00:05:29] But this is very, very different.

[00:05:30] And how fun is that?

[00:05:33] It's very fun.

[00:05:34] I just had no idea that marshmallows were such a big part of the culture.

[00:05:39] I can only assume.

[00:05:41] Jimmy, please write in and tell us about this.

[00:05:43] Does marshmallow feature prominently in other things about Christmas?

[00:05:47] I love this.

[00:05:48] It rules the day over there.

[00:05:50] My goodness.

[00:05:51] I really like it, though.

[00:05:52] Thank you, Jimmy.

[00:05:54] We have three different things to try tomorrow, Scotty, for Friday.

[00:05:58] But they're all in a marshmallow family.

[00:06:01] So not that those ones weren't, but it's just solely marshmallow.

[00:06:05] Right, right.

[00:06:06] No chocolate tomorrow.

[00:06:07] So we're going to do all those in one day.

[00:06:09] Looking forward to that.

[00:06:09] You got a joke for us?

[00:06:10] I do.

[00:06:11] How did the two rival Christmas trees finally get along?

[00:06:14] Oh, man.

[00:06:17] They stumped.

[00:06:18] They stumped it out.

[00:06:20] No, they signed a peace treaty.

[00:06:24] It's not bad.

[00:06:25] It was kind of a pity laugh.

[00:06:27] No, I liked it.

[00:06:28] I thought it was.

[00:06:29] I liked it.

[00:06:30] All right.

[00:06:31] Let's do the countdown.

[00:06:32] Let's do it.

[00:06:32] Let's go.

[00:06:38] 41.

[00:06:43] Tomorrow, man, a big day.

[00:06:45] I'm happy that it's happening on a day that we're doing an episode.

[00:06:49] But not to fast forward.

[00:06:51] We are living in the 41.

[00:06:53] I'm enjoying the 41.

[00:06:54] I am finding joy in the 41.

[00:06:56] Yeah.

[00:06:56] In 41, a prime number.

[00:06:58] Oh, there you go.

[00:07:00] Number talk with Scotty.

[00:07:02] Number talk with Scotty.

[00:07:05] Love the prime numbers.

[00:07:07] 41 days.

[00:07:08] Ooh.

[00:07:08] I'm with you, though.

[00:07:09] So next week, we'll be in the 30s.

[00:07:12] Oh, my goodness.

[00:07:14] Oh, my goodness.

[00:07:15] Let's get to the news.

[00:07:22] Today is November 14th.

[00:07:25] Here's the news.

[00:07:27] You all right there, Larry?

[00:07:28] Yeah, I was doing a funny face, Adam.

[00:07:30] Oh, okay.

[00:07:30] Also, shout out to my brother, Pat.

[00:07:31] Happy birthday, buddy.

[00:07:32] Happy birthday, Pat.

[00:07:33] That's right.

[00:07:34] I'll bring you some of this candy.

[00:07:36] I think you'll really enjoy that.

[00:07:39] Let's get to some interesting news.

[00:07:41] We've talked about some Hallmark.

[00:07:42] We've talked about Freeform in regards to the movies this week.

[00:07:45] Let's head over to Lifetime.

[00:07:47] This is an interesting one.

[00:07:48] I don't think there has been a bigger entertainment story this year, Scotty, than the relationship of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey.

[00:07:57] I think even people that don't care.

[00:07:59] I just couldn't care less about celebrity relationships.

[00:08:01] This has nothing to do with female empowerment and Taylor Swift being a big star.

[00:08:07] Great for her.

[00:08:07] Wonderful.

[00:08:08] I just don't care about her love life.

[00:08:10] Well, people do.

[00:08:12] People do so much, in fact, Scotty, that Lifetime has already created a movie about it.

[00:08:20] And it takes place at Christmastime.

[00:08:22] It is a new movie that's coming out this holiday season called Christmas in the Spotlights.

[00:08:27] And while it doesn't specifically say that this movie was inspired by the relationship of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, it was definitely inspired by them.

[00:08:39] It is about a blonde pop star performing on stage in a sparkly costume.

[00:08:46] Meanwhile, a professional football player, Drew, is in the audience and they end up meeting and falling in love.

[00:08:55] Now, listen, could it be a coincidence?

[00:08:57] Could it be a coincidence?

[00:08:59] And the blonde singer's name is Taylor Fast?

[00:09:01] No.

[00:09:02] Let's see.

[00:09:03] What is her name?

[00:09:03] Her name is Bowen.

[00:09:06] Ah.

[00:09:07] Bowen.

[00:09:08] Bow.

[00:09:08] It's a Christmas word.

[00:09:10] Bow, I guess.

[00:09:10] I don't know.

[00:09:11] Bowen and Travis Kelsey.

[00:09:12] And then Drew is the guy.

[00:09:14] Oh, Drew.

[00:09:14] Okay.

[00:09:15] The two connect.

[00:09:16] They go on a date before making things official.

[00:09:20] And it looks.

[00:09:22] That's usually the way you should do things.

[00:09:24] I know.

[00:09:24] I watched a trailer for this movie.

[00:09:27] Oh, by the way, a few Eagle Eye fans pointed out, there's a trailer about it, that a hidden Swift reference is in the trailer.

[00:09:35] Drew's football number is 13, which is famously the real life singer's lucky number.

[00:09:41] Oh my gosh.

[00:09:42] It's happening.

[00:09:43] It's happening.

[00:09:44] They are doing it.

[00:09:45] You know, and this is interesting.

[00:09:46] We got, you got the Hallmark Channel.

[00:09:48] They're doing their Kansas City Chiefs Christmas movie and Mama Kelsey's supposed to be in it, whatever.

[00:09:54] Clearly that's going to be a big ratings win for the network.

[00:09:59] I like Lifetime's approach, though, where they're just like, let's just make this and be as blazing as possible with the fact that we're just telling this story.

[00:10:09] Let's rip this off as closely as possible without having to pay for the story.

[00:10:13] Yes.

[00:10:14] Yes.

[00:10:14] Christmas in the spotlight.

[00:10:15] It premieres Saturday, November 23rd.

[00:10:19] And Patrick from Lifetime Uncorked is going to be joining myself and Dan over on Deck the Hallmark to review that movie this holiday season.

[00:10:27] So it's going to be a lot of fun.

[00:10:29] Okay.

[00:10:29] If this rings your bell, I am happy for you.

[00:10:32] I will not watch it.

[00:10:34] I have no interest in it, but I will be listening to the DTH.

[00:10:37] Actually, it's the DTL episode of it because I love Patrick.

[00:10:42] I got to be honest.

[00:10:44] I got to send you this trailer.

[00:10:46] It looks good.

[00:10:47] I can't wait.

[00:10:49] At least we can all agree on that.

[00:10:50] It looks good.

[00:10:51] I think everybody watched this trailer and was like, oh, oh, oh.

[00:10:54] That's it, huh?

[00:10:55] That's unfortunate, eh?

[00:10:56] I can't wait.

[00:10:58] I'm very excited about it.

[00:10:59] Let's take a break.

[00:11:00] We'll come back.

[00:11:00] We'll get to the TV listings and the battle today, which is Rudolph.

[00:11:04] We're battling Rudolph.

[00:11:06] Bring him in.

[00:11:06] We'll be right back here on Christmas morning.

[00:11:13] Welcome back, everybody.

[00:11:15] It's Bran.

[00:11:16] It's Scott.

[00:11:18] And I'm ready for some TV.

[00:11:19] I'm ready to turn on the TV and just see the Christmas stuff.

[00:13:18] Wow!

[00:13:19] That was amazing!

[00:13:20] Thank you, TV Scotty!

[00:13:21] That was incredible!

[00:13:23] Wasn't that incredible, Scott?

[00:13:24] I think you're overselling it.

[00:13:25] It was really good.

[00:13:26] I think you're trying to make up for this awful movie on Lifetime.

[00:13:29] No!

[00:13:30] No!

[00:13:30] It was amazing.

[00:13:31] It was amazing.

[00:13:32] Let's get to the battle today.

[00:13:34] It's Thursday.

[00:13:35] We are battling...

[00:13:36] Why'd you say it like that?

[00:13:37] It's Thursday.

[00:13:38] It's Thursday!

[00:13:39] Hey!

[00:13:40] Hey, Jimmy!

[00:13:40] Hey!

[00:13:41] Thursday!

[00:13:41] Hey!

[00:13:42] Hey, Scott A!

[00:13:44] Come on in here!

[00:13:46] We're battling Rudolph.

[00:13:48] Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

[00:13:50] Maybe you've heard of him.

[00:13:51] We got two songs, two versions of the same song.

[00:13:54] We're going to start with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Emma Smith.

[00:13:58] Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

[00:14:01] Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

[00:14:02] He had a very shiny nose.

[00:14:05] And if you ever saw it, you wouldn't say it glows.

[00:14:12] All the reindeers used to laugh from calling names.

[00:14:17] Then I'll find you Christmas Eve.

[00:14:25] Santa can't see.

[00:14:28] Rudolph with your nose so bright.

[00:14:31] Won't you guide my say?

[00:14:33] Oh my gosh, that was so good.

[00:15:00] I loved that.

[00:15:01] Man, that was really good.

[00:15:03] Emma Smith, what she lacks in a creative name she makes up for in a voice.

[00:15:07] I tell you what, that was powerful.

[00:15:08] That was fantastic.

[00:15:10] Can Danny Draycott do any better?

[00:15:13] That's the big question.

[00:15:14] Everybody's wondering about, hey, Danny Draycott, get in here!

[00:15:17] Yeah, Rudolph.

[00:15:18] Rudolph.

[00:15:18] Now that is a battle, Brandon.

[00:16:19] That's a battle.

[00:16:19] That is a battle of two smashes.

[00:16:23] I think both songs are great.

[00:16:26] They could not be more different.

[00:16:29] And that's why we do this.

[00:16:30] That's right.

[00:16:30] We love it.

[00:16:31] You can vote right now.

[00:16:32] Link is in the description.

[00:16:33] It's going to be live until New Year's Eve.

[00:16:36] You can ring in the new year with Ryan Seacrest and catching up on battles, if that's how

[00:16:42] you want to do it.

[00:16:43] Or you can vote right now in November.

[00:16:45] You can do that as well.

[00:16:46] I'm excited to see who wins this one.

[00:16:48] We're going to announce the winner, of course, as we start the 2025 season in January.

[00:16:53] We will get there.

[00:16:55] Scotty, one more day for the week.

[00:16:58] One more day.

[00:16:58] You got another day in you?

[00:16:59] I have one more day in me.

[00:17:01] Let's do it.

[00:17:02] We'll be back tomorrow.

[00:17:03] Until then, Merry Christmas.

[00:17:04] Merry Christmas.

[00:17:15] You're about to hear some ads that help pay for our trip back and forth to the North Pole.

[00:17:19] Feel free to listen.

[00:17:20] Feel free to bail now.

[00:17:21] But either way, thanks for being here.

[00:17:23] Ho, ho, ho.
