[00:00:00] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast
[00:00:12] Live from the North Pole, it's time for Christmas Morning.
[00:00:18] The Daily Show where every day is Christmas.
[00:00:22] Here are your hosts, Brand and Scott.
[00:00:30] Hello everybody and happy Double Christmas Morning week to everyone who celebrates, which is hopefully you if you're listening.
[00:00:43] I'm Brandon, I'm here with my good friend Scott.
[00:00:45] Scott, hello to you.
[00:00:46] Hello Brandon, happy end of April Double Christmas week to you.
[00:00:51] It's very exciting.
[00:00:52] I am thrilled for those that don't know what that means.
[00:00:55] We have two episodes coming out this week, one today obviously and then we'll be back tomorrow with another episode for our monthly Christmas Party episode.
[00:01:04] It's going to be a ton of fun Scottie.
[00:01:06] I am thrilled anytime I get the chance to hang out with you twice in one week.
[00:01:11] That's right.
[00:01:12] And Shannon couldn't join us this month because of scheduling conflicts but we have a special guest coming so you're just going to have to tune in and listen.
[00:01:18] That's right.
[00:01:19] It could be anybody.
[00:01:20] Maybe it's Celine Dion.
[00:01:22] Maybe it's Mariah Carey herself.
[00:01:24] Who can say I can't.
[00:01:25] Could be Taylor Swift.
[00:01:27] Wow.
[00:01:28] Think so.
[00:01:29] That's not Taylor Swift.
[00:01:30] Could be.
[00:01:31] Could be though.
[00:01:32] I don't think so.
[00:01:33] She should be so lucky.
[00:01:34] She should be so lucky to be invited on our show.
[00:01:36] She should be so lucky.
[00:01:37] That's right.
[00:01:38] Scottie, we got a lot to get to today I'm sure and I can tell just looking at that mail bag that it is just jam packed.
[00:01:47] So I think we got to open that sucker up.
[00:01:48] Let's do it.
[00:01:49] Letters.
[00:01:50] We get letters.
[00:01:51] We get stacks, stacks, stacks of letters.
[00:01:56] Our email today is from friend of the show Kim Gazzarec.
[00:01:59] She says I think you might enjoy my thrift shop find this past weekend.
[00:02:04] My boys will be looking their very best this holiday season thanks to these adorable Christmas ties I found.
[00:02:10] Gilbert is the stylish black cat with the Santa and snowman tie and Max is looking marvelous with his stocking tie.
[00:02:17] Now she sent in photos brand.
[00:02:19] I don't think I could do these photos justice.
[00:02:22] I want you to if you haven't gone to our Instagram yet to see these just picture two adorable cats wearing little mini Christmas ties.
[00:02:30] I didn't even know these existed much less.
[00:02:32] Oh, they're so common.
[00:02:33] You'll find them at a thrift shop.
[00:02:34] I didn't know this was a thing that I cared about but now that I have seen cats wearing miniature Christmas ties.
[00:02:41] Scottie, I'm obsessed.
[00:02:43] I love this.
[00:02:44] This is fantastic.
[00:02:45] This is the only way to cat in my opinion.
[00:02:47] Yep, my cats would have nothing to do with Christmas ties if I tried it would be a horrible bloody situation but I'm glad Kim's are these are awesome.
[00:02:56] Please check out these photos on our Instagram.
[00:02:58] The other email I want to read today is from Katie F.
[00:03:01] She says Merry Christmas Brandon Scott.
[00:03:04] I said it in my review but I'll say it again.
[00:03:07] Your podcast is the highlight of every week.
[00:03:09] I found the podcast because of Alonzo Derraldi.
[00:03:12] I adore his takes on films and his love for Christmas.
[00:03:15] So I was searching for podcasts he had been on in January and boom, I found you.
[00:03:20] I am super excited that I convinced my family to go to Castle Noelle in Medina, Ohio when my husband and I visit them this summer.
[00:03:28] Now spoiler, we have some content in tomorrow's Christmas party episode about Castle Noelle that keeps coming up.
[00:03:34] I'm really excited to be back with a new episode of Castle Noelle.
[00:03:37] I'm really excited that we're back.
[00:03:40] My husband and I really, really need to go.
[00:03:43] She goes on I grew up about 30 minutes away from Medina and my parents have talked about going to Castle Noelle in December but it's always so crowded that we think we wouldn't be able to enjoy it.
[00:03:52] So going in July or August would be perfect.
[00:03:54] If you do make your way there.
[00:03:56] I have to recommend my favorite ice cream place in the world handles homemade ice cream.
[00:04:01] Not a sponsor.
[00:04:02] I'm saying please record some video and some photos maybe even a little audio review as you go through it.
[00:04:10] We would love to put it on a party episode.
[00:04:12] I love this.
[00:04:13] This is amazing.
[00:04:14] People are just out there living my dream and I'm trying not to be overly jealous but it's just amazing, just amazing.
[00:04:21] Pretty awesome that she found us thanks to Alonzo.
[00:04:24] So having guests like Alonzo on this show are really bearing fruit.
[00:04:28] Alonzo is good for quite a few things including getting us new listeners.
[00:04:33] He's the best.
[00:04:34] Heck of a guy and gets us listeners.
[00:04:36] Good stuff.
[00:04:37] How we doing in the review department?
[00:04:38] I have bad news Scotty.
[00:04:40] We are stuck at 245 and the review I'm getting ready to read is the final one that I have.
[00:04:47] I know.
[00:04:51] I know I'm just as bummed as everybody.
[00:04:53] All right listeners do your thing.
[00:04:55] If you haven't reviewed yet please go to Apple Podcasts and give us a review we would love to read it.
[00:05:00] Today's review is from USPS Chris that says love the show.
[00:05:04] I'm a USPS employee and I found your show very entertaining and fun to listen to.
[00:05:09] To keep my stress level down on a hectic day, keep up the amazing work and marry Christmas all year round.
[00:05:17] How about that, Scotty?
[00:05:18] This kind of makes us heroes in a sense that we are keeping the stress level down for the USPS to people that are out there delivering our mail.
[00:05:27] I don't want to give us the hero stamp but I almost feel like I have to at this point.
[00:05:33] Yeah they're doing the important work making Christmas happen and we're out there providing a little support.
[00:05:39] I think it's the least we can do.
[00:05:41] Thank you for writing in Chris.
[00:05:42] I appreciate you leaving us a review.
[00:05:44] Scotty I'm ready for a ha ha funny joke.
[00:05:47] Do you have a ha ha funny joke for us today?
[00:05:50] Well we'll see. It's a knock knock joke though.
[00:05:53] Okay I'm ready.
[00:05:55] Knock knock.
[00:05:56] Who's there?
[00:05:57] Kanye.
[00:05:58] Kanye?
[00:05:59] K-Kanye who?
[00:06:01] Kanye help me untangle me Christmas lights.
[00:06:04] Wacka wacka!
[00:06:05] Wow how about that?
[00:06:08] We did it, we did it Scotty.
[00:06:10] That one took some skill to pull off.
[00:06:12] Yeah you pulled off the acting chops Scotty.
[00:06:16] It was an acting showcase there with that voice.
[00:06:18] Yeah those acting classes are really coming in clutch now.
[00:06:21] How about we do the countdown?
[00:06:23] Go to the world.
[00:06:27] 245 days until Christmas.
[00:06:33] 245.
[00:06:35] Well we're under 250.
[00:06:37] That's right that's a pretty big deal.
[00:06:39] We're gonna just let this go by without making a big deal of this.
[00:06:42] We are under 250 Scotty that's huge.
[00:06:45] Yep I love it. 240 some odd.
[00:06:48] You know what we're just screaming toward 200 days and I'm gonna get super excited when we hit that number.
[00:06:54] We're gonna be just outside of ourselves Scotty.
[00:06:58] We're gonna be freaking out. It's very exciting.
[00:07:00] I do got a question now how long until October 1st?
[00:07:03] Do you have that number for us?
[00:07:05] Only 160 days until October 1st.
[00:07:10] Amazing stuff Scotty. Amazing stuff.
[00:07:13] I've got some news if you want it.
[00:07:14] Let's do it.
[00:07:20] Today is Wednesday April 24th and here is the news.
[00:07:27] Scotty we've had some stories this year such as the one from a little while ago about the family who still has the live.
[00:07:34] Christmas tree up outside of their house and it is thriving.
[00:07:38] People are all about that.
[00:07:40] Well I have maybe the opposite of that.
[00:07:42] We are heading over to I believe to Canada.
[00:07:46] This is from CTV in Canada.
[00:07:49] In the Waterloo region we all know where Waterloo is specifically the city property in Cambridge because there is a stretch in downtown that still has.
[00:08:03] And this is in April late April still has the Christmas decorations up and people are beginning to go.
[00:08:11] What gives why are the Christmas decorations still up in downtown Waterloo on April 23rd people are saying it's overdue.
[00:08:22] Hey Brian what gives why are the decorations still up in Waterloo.
[00:08:25] Thank you for asking.
[00:08:27] I appreciate that a spokesperson for the city came out and said the Preston holiday decorations have been removed but some lighting remained in place so that testing could be completed to troubleshoot some electrical issues as the work is now complete.
[00:08:45] The region's contractor has confirmed that they will be removed this week.
[00:08:50] Now I'm not going to say that this seems coincidental but it seems coincidental that after getting an email from CTV they're like oh yeah they're coming down this week we already had it scheduled.
[00:09:05] Seems very convenient and I just want to say this Waterloo if you want to keep your decorations up all year stand your ground.
[00:09:14] Like right here in downtown. Yeah that Greenville we got Christmas lights up all year in downtown Greenville because that's just the way that we roll hold your ground.
[00:09:23] Don't give in to the people that are being like you got to take them down.
[00:09:27] Don't come up with some excuse.
[00:09:29] Hold your grounds.
[00:09:30] Gotty.
[00:09:31] Yeah Edison did not invent the light bulb and said this is only for Christmas there are lights.
[00:09:36] Let the lights stand is what I say.
[00:09:39] So there you go Scotty a story about a city that I think is being scared into taking down their Christmas lights and I think that's wrong.
[00:09:47] So I just want the people there to know that we support them and their desire to keep up the Christmas lights as long as they want to.
[00:09:54] We've got your back Waterloo the Christmas morning podcast supports your Christmas lights or lights just let's just call them lights be cool.
[00:10:02] They're just lights.
[00:10:04] They're just lights.
[00:10:05] Everyone loves lights.
[00:10:06] Let's take a quick break.
[00:10:07] We'll come back.
[00:10:08] We'll get to the Christmas TV specials and today is Christmas music battle here on Christmas morning.
[00:10:17] We're back.
[00:10:18] Hello everybody.
[00:10:19] It's Christmas morning and what better way to celebrate Christmas than with some Christmas TV and movies.
[00:10:25] You might be wondering how's that even possible?

[00:10:28] Well I'll tell you how it's possible.
[00:10:29] We got a TV Scotty in the house.

[00:12:57] Thank you TV Scotty.
[00:13:00] It is time for the Christmas music battle.
[00:13:03] Let's get to last week's results first.
[00:13:05] It was Instrumental Christmas Music Week in last place.
[00:13:10] I'm shocked by this. I'm sad by this.
[00:13:13] But I shouldn't be shocked because this is what happens sometimes.
[00:13:16] It's God Rest You Mary Gentlemen by the Aqualads.
[00:13:20] Scotty, how do you feel about this?
[00:13:23] Now obviously I brought this song.
[00:13:25] Obviously.
[00:13:26] I'm fine with it. I love this song.
[00:13:28] I love surf guitar music.
[00:13:30] I don't really care if it wins.
[00:13:32] And there are six people out there according to the voting
[00:13:36] that gave me either pity votes or agree with me.
[00:13:39] So thank you to my six people.
[00:13:41] In second place, I could have seen a world where this song won
[00:13:45] but it came up and ended up coming in second.
[00:13:47] Here's Merry Christmas Baby by Joel Patterson.
[00:13:51] Joel crushes every time Scotty.
[00:13:54] Joel Patterson is so, so good with his jazz guitar stylings.
[00:14:00] I love it.
[00:14:01] This one, it was pretty close.
[00:14:03] 34.8% of the vote.
[00:14:05] So not a real blowout.
[00:14:07] But I think we all know who deserved to win this week.
[00:14:10] Yes, Joel Patterson was brought by the listeners, which means
[00:14:14] the winner is me.
[00:14:16] Oh Christmas tree by Charlie and the Tropic cows.
[00:14:21] Your boy brands back back on top.
[00:14:23] Scotty it feels good.
[00:14:25] Feels good to be back where I think we would all agree.
[00:14:28] I belong.
[00:14:29] That song is so, so good.
[00:14:32] I love it.
[00:14:34] I don't know if the style is called Zidaco.
[00:14:37] It's like that New Orleans jazz.
[00:14:39] It might be and I might have it wrong.
[00:14:41] So I don't know if people love to write it and tell me I'm an idiot.
[00:14:43] So go ahead and do that if that's the case.
[00:14:45] But I love that song.
[00:14:46] I like this band.
[00:14:48] Thank you for bringing it, Brian.
[00:14:50] Thank you for turning me on to Charlie and the Tropicoles.
[00:14:52] It's a great album.
[00:14:54] It's a great album full of fun, which means currently it is still
[00:14:59] anybody's game.
[00:15:00] Scott would six brand myself with five and the listeners with four.
[00:15:06] So the listeners could still easily come back and win this one.
[00:15:10] It's anybody's game, which is why we battle this week.
[00:15:14] It is baby.
[00:15:15] It's cold outside.
[00:15:16] Do you get a fun fact for us?
[00:15:18] Scotty, I do in 1944 Frank looser wrote baby.
[00:15:23] It's cold outside to sing with his wife, Lynn Garland at their
[00:15:26] housewarming party in New York City at the Navarro hotel.
[00:15:29] They sang the song to indicate to guests that it was time to leave.
[00:15:33] That is a very fun, fun fact.
[00:15:35] I had no idea.
[00:15:36] If you're not indicating that it's time to leave with a song that
[00:15:39] you wrote, baby, it's time to leave.
[00:15:43] Scotty, we got three different versions today.
[00:15:46] Let's start with baby is caught outside by Drew Holcomb in
[00:15:50] the neighbors.
[00:15:51] I really can't stay.
[00:15:53] It's cold outside.
[00:15:55] I've got to go away.
[00:15:56] Baby, it's cold outside.
[00:15:58] This evening has been so very nice.
[00:16:03] I'll hold your hands there just like ice.
[00:16:07] Beautiful, what's your hurry?
[00:16:10] Listen to my fireplace roll.
[00:16:14] Your mother needs to worry.
[00:16:17] Maybe just a half a dream.
[00:16:19] Put some records on while I pull.
[00:16:21] Baby, it's so bad out there.
[00:16:24] No caps to be had out there.
[00:16:28] I wish I knew how to break the spell.
[00:16:33] I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell.
[00:16:36] I have to say no, no, no, sir.
[00:16:39] At least you're gonna say that I tried.
[00:16:42] What's the sense in hurting my pride?
[00:16:44] Baby, don't hold out.
[00:16:46] Oh, but it's cold outside.
[00:16:51] Little light duet there.
[00:16:53] Drew Holcomb and the neighbors have made it into the music battle before.
[00:16:56] I like that.
[00:16:57] I like Drew Holcomb.
[00:16:58] I like the neighbors.
[00:16:59] I believe that is similar to how the song was written.
[00:17:02] I believe that is him and his wife with that little duet.
[00:17:04] Very nice, very well done.
[00:17:07] Up next we have Baby is Caught Outside by Pensacola Mist.
[00:17:12] I really can't stay.
[00:17:15] It's cold outside.
[00:17:17] I've got to go away.
[00:17:19] It's cold outside.
[00:17:21] This evening has been so very nice.
[00:17:25] My mother won't start to worry.
[00:17:30] My father will be facing the floor.
[00:17:34] My vision is getting blurred.
[00:17:38] Maybe this is what I'm here for.
[00:17:41] I really can't stay.
[00:17:46] No, I really can't stay.
[00:17:49] Baby, it's cold outside.
[00:17:52] Baby, it's cold outside.
[00:17:55] Stay close.
[00:17:57] We can get warm together.
[00:18:01] Baby, it's cold outside.
[00:18:04] Baby, it's cold outside.
[00:18:08] Shut it down everybody.
[00:18:10] Gosh, that was good.
[00:18:12] Talk about doing your own thing.
[00:18:14] Talk about making a song your own.
[00:18:16] Pensacola Mist didn't say I...
[00:18:18] If you want to know how to do it,
[00:18:20] Pensacola Mist didn't say I...
[00:18:22] If you would have told me there is a synth pop version of Baby is
[00:18:29] Cold Outside out there, I would have been like,
[00:18:31] are you sure about that?
[00:18:32] But it worked out really well.
[00:18:33] Well done by them.
[00:18:34] Last but not least, it's Baby is Caught Outside by Nathaniel
[00:18:37] Ratcliffe in the Night Sweats.
[00:18:39] I really can't stay.
[00:18:41] Baby, it's cold outside.
[00:18:44] I've got to go away.
[00:18:46] Baby, it's cold outside.
[00:18:49] The evening has been
[00:18:51] Hoping that you'll travel.
[00:18:53] So very nice.
[00:18:55] I will hold your hands.
[00:18:57] They're just fun guys.
[00:18:59] My mind will start to worry.
[00:19:02] Look before what's your mind.
[00:19:04] My mind will be pacing the floor.
[00:19:06] Listen to the fireplace.
[00:19:09] Really, I'd better skirt you.
[00:19:12] Beautiful, please don't leave.
[00:19:14] For me it is to have a drink more.
[00:19:16] Put some records on while I pause.
[00:19:18] Maybe it's my thing.
[00:19:20] Baby, it's bad.
[00:19:22] Hey, say what's in this dream?
[00:19:25] Caps to be had out there.
[00:19:28] I wish a new home.
[00:19:30] Eyes on like stone.
[00:19:32] To break the spell.
[00:19:34] I'll take your hat.
[00:19:36] Your hair and looks.
[00:19:38] That is a deep male voice and I really liked it.
[00:19:41] I am a big Nathaniel Ratcliffe in the Night Sweats fan.
[00:19:45] So I'm happy to see them included on the show.
[00:19:49] Cool version.
[00:19:51] Cool version.
[00:19:53] I think you get two, you know,
[00:19:55] pretty traditional standard versions of this song.
[00:19:58] And then you got one in the middle there that's kind of like,
[00:20:01] you think you know this song?
[00:20:03] You don't.
[00:20:05] I'm really intrigued to see who wins this week.
[00:20:07] I do think it really could go to any one of these versions
[00:20:10] just depending on the style you like.
[00:20:12] So really good battle, I think.
[00:20:15] Yeah. Pensacola Mist, that version was the epitome
[00:20:18] of why we do these music battles
[00:20:20] because I've never heard anything like that.
[00:20:22] It was such a unique take on the song.
[00:20:24] And Pensacola Mist, it sounds like a soda.
[00:20:27] It does.
[00:20:29] I'll take some six count wings
[00:20:33] and then I'll take the Pensacola Mist as my beverage.
[00:20:37] I'll take that. Thank you.
[00:20:39] Have you heard of Starry Soda?
[00:20:41] I've heard about Starry Soda because I watch a lot of the NBA
[00:20:44] and for some reason Starry Soda is all over the NBA
[00:20:48] as far as marketing goes.
[00:20:50] Starry Soda is just a rebranding of Sierra Mist.
[00:20:53] That's all it is.
[00:20:54] I was as confused as anybody else.
[00:20:56] It just came out of nowhere and I'm like,
[00:20:58] where's this soda getting all its money?
[00:21:00] Oh, it's Sierra Mist money.
[00:21:02] That's how they're getting all their money.
[00:21:04] So there you go.
[00:21:05] I want to mention that we got listener submissions
[00:21:07] this week from Kelly Andrioni,
[00:21:09] the King, Lance Garmin, Lenora Gilbert, Brad Adams,
[00:21:12] Drew Basic and Frank Napier.
[00:21:14] What a crop.
[00:21:15] Thank you everybody for submitting.
[00:21:17] I loved going through them.
[00:21:18] Great crop.
[00:21:19] Scotty, I think it's only fair that you pick the song
[00:21:21] for next week.
[00:21:22] Do you have one in mind?
[00:21:23] Yeah.
[00:21:24] I decided not to go with the backlog this week.
[00:21:27] I thought of one that I really like
[00:21:29] and I don't hear very often.
[00:21:31] The song is called Jingling.
[00:21:33] Are you from...
[00:21:34] And the original was the Andrew Sisters.
[00:21:36] Are you familiar with it?
[00:21:37] No, I don't think I am.
[00:21:39] Jingling, Jingling, Jingling, Jingling.
[00:21:41] What fun to hear the sleigh bells jingle.
[00:21:43] Jingling, Jingling, Jingling, Jingling.
[00:21:45] They set your heart a tingle.
[00:21:47] Jingling, Jingling, Jingling.
[00:21:49] I love to hear our laughter mingle.
[00:21:51] Ha-ha!
[00:21:52] Go-ho!
[00:21:53] Gliding through the snow.
[00:21:54] Jingling, Jingling...
[00:21:55] I liked the energy of that song
[00:21:56] and I checked Bandcamp.
[00:21:57] It seemed like there were plenty of versions.
[00:21:59] Now we could get stung by this
[00:22:01] like we have in the past where
[00:22:03] there's an album called Jingling
[00:22:05] and they have four tracks
[00:22:06] and they have nothing to do with this song.
[00:22:08] But let's do our best.
[00:22:09] So go to Bandcamp.com, search for Jingling
[00:22:12] and the original is J-I-N-G-A-L-I-N-G.
[00:22:17] So you might try searching it that way.
[00:22:19] That's what I did
[00:22:20] and seemed like plenty came up.
[00:22:21] So find something you like
[00:22:23] and email it to me at ChristmasMorningPodcast
[00:22:25] at gmail.com
[00:22:26] After hearing it,
[00:22:27] Scotty, I am familiar with that song.
[00:22:29] I'm intrigued to see
[00:22:31] what type of songs we got it.
[00:22:33] If somebody can find a synthpop version of Jingling,
[00:22:36] that'd be the real impressive get there.
[00:22:39] I'm sure Lance Garmin can.
[00:22:41] I'm sure he can.
[00:22:42] Scotty, we did it
[00:22:43] and the good news is we're going to do it again tomorrow
[00:22:45] because it's a Christmas morning party episode
[00:22:48] because this is going to be April 25th.
[00:22:50] What better way to celebrate the 25th of April
[00:22:52] than with your friends at Christmas morning, Scotty?
[00:22:54] I'm so excited.
[00:22:55] So excited.
[00:22:56] Can't wait.
[00:22:57] So until tomorrow.
[00:22:58] Merry Christmas.
[00:23:03] Merry Christmas.
