[00:00:33] Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of Christmas morning. We're back, baby. I'm Bran and I'm here with Globe Trotting Scotty. Hello Scotty. Oh, man. I missed being here so much Bran I'm so glad to be back July is a big travel month for you between your trip

[00:00:52] You just went on and Bramble Fest in a couple weeks. It's a busy time for me, and I'm an indoor cat I really like just to be in my house, and this is a little tough, but I don't want to say I got through it

[00:01:02] I was very lucky to take an amazing vacation and do some really cool stuff But I just wanted to be here, I've just missed it so much and I'm so happy to see you

[00:01:13] Well, what was the highlight? The highlight was going dog sledding on a glacier in Alaska So what you're saying is you pick Bran over the dog sled any day of the week?

[00:01:24] I would say between seeing 50 dogs and seeing one Bran. It's about equal. That's what I'm saying. Okay, that's fair I've always wanted to be equal with dogs. So I feel that's great. That makes me happy It was really really cool

[00:01:37] They took us in a helicopter up to the top of a glacier and it was hot on top of a glacier There's so much reflected Sun. I had my winter coat unzipped. I had my sweater unzipped It was really really hot But yeah

[00:01:51] You'll be happy to know that while I was on the cruise ship relaxing because you have some days at sea of course I pulled up some Vince Giraldi Christmas music. Yeah, and I listened to it You know You know

[00:02:16] Yeah, you did look at you having the vibe going Scotty it was great It was really great. So happy for you, but we're now through all of our scheduled travel and It's smooth sailing from here to Christmas well except for Bramble Fest you got but you're gonna be

[00:02:33] Yes, yes, but we're not gonna miss an episode No because of that week and we'll have the party episode as well. So it's great We sure will very excited about that. It's gonna be a ton of fun Scotty

[00:02:45] We I did miss this last week. I gotta be honest with you the Fed like not having this regularly scheduled Boost of Christmas joy Is tough on old Brandon, so I'm excited to dive back into the mailbag and see

[00:02:58] What's getting some other people going in regards to the Christmas cheer? So let's open up that mailbag Lot of housekeeping this week and I have a bunch of short emails first one is from Nicholas st. Nick Linsman He says Merry Christmas fellas

[00:03:16] I'm just sharing this event in case we have any Michigan Christmas fans listening Very cool Christmas vintage market coming up this upcoming Sunday I'll send in photos of the event and he sent this flyer brand. This looks so cool. It's a great flyer

[00:03:31] Yeah, antique and collectible show Sunday July 14th 8 a.m. To 3 p.m The Royal Oak farmers market and I'll put this on our Instagram in case anybody's out in in Michigan But just looking at it makes me a little bit jealous, you know

[00:03:46] I was just thinking the other day Scotty about maybe this coming holiday season. We're going into what is it season four? for the five and We haven't really had a new artwork in quite some time. Maybe a little vintage

[00:04:03] Sparkle on a Christmas morning artwork might be in order for season five Make it make it feel vintage because just looking at this flyer makes me feel Christmassy Just the vintage vibes of it. I did the original artwork. I can certainly do a vintage version

[00:04:18] So well, we'll put that one in the in the old to-do bucket. I love that and I love this I wish I was up there because the vintage you can find vintage ornaments lights reindeer elves and Santa Yeah, that's it's like a full event

[00:04:32] Sometimes Christmas in July is treated like this tiny little afterthought But that doesn't seem to be the case with this. This seems awesome and and say Nick if you end up going, please Take some pictures and cinema. Yeah, I'd love to see what was available there

[00:04:44] yeah, that would be a really cool thing for our upcoming party episode which Get your stuff in now because I think it's only one more week till we record it brand Yeah, and if you're gonna be in person in Greenville, yeah that Greenville

[00:05:36] could bring the the worst part of a vacation is coming back 100% and You're dealing with flights and unpacking and all that stuff and I got this email and I said, oh that was really really nice

[00:05:47] So, thank you Joe. I appreciate that Joe. You're speaking. You're speaking what everybody's thinking pal. Thanks Yep, I got a real brief email from Kristen Lowe and it says eggnog Scotty get on it

[00:05:59] That's right, it's about that time now that is fantastic I looked at I'm like what in the world is she talking about She's reminding me that if I'm gonna make my homemade eggnog recipe that takes that many months to simmer in the back of the garage

[00:06:12] Fridge I gotta start it now. Thank you Christian. I completely forgot this I'm gonna try it brand with the artificial sugar this year for diabetic Scottie. Please do I would like to I'm gonna have some weird tasting booze. All right. Yeah

[00:06:27] Before I wish there was an easy way for you to ship some down here because while I don't Partake very much in eggnog. I'm not a huge fan The other folks here in the office love eggnog and during the holiday season

[00:06:39] They do something called a nog o'clock where they try different versions of eggnog each week And so if there was a homemade Scottie version, I'm sure they would be down to try it But I don't know of any good way to send eggnog from Colorado to Greenville

[00:06:54] Oh, I know a way you just have me out for the marathon. Okay, and I'll just pack it in my luggage There you go easy easy. I got an email from Jessica Trinidad

[00:07:03] She said I found Christmas fabric at Joanne's today including what might be the most California thing I've ever seen why yes Those are avocados dressed as snowmen elves Santa and reindeer Jessica I love this Christmas in the wild spotting and you're definitely setting a trend here

[00:07:20] Other people have been sending in the stuff from Hobby Lobby. It's good to see Joanne represented I'm sure Michaels stores. We have an inside elf their brand. So I think yeah, we'll know for one more week. We have an inside

[00:07:32] Inside elf is going somewhere else. But okay. Yes last I heard I think it's it's coming It's coming out of the 4th of July is through I think it's if not already out It'll be out soon, but I really like that

[00:07:45] Christmas avocado, I don't even like avocados, but it's just really fun Oh, I'd love to have some kind of like jacket or something made of that. That looks really cool I'll post these photos on our Instagram very fun. And that's that's our mailbag for this week

[00:07:57] I got a few more but I'm trying to decide how much to hold So that we have some stuff for the Christmas party as well fair. I do have good news Having a week off did give us some time to get in a review or two

[00:08:09] We're up to 252 which I think is a a few episodes up from I'm sorry a few reviews up from last episode 252 I got one from Monica Rose star that says greeting fellow Christmas friends. Hello guys I found your podcast last year during the holidays. I still remember how

[00:08:28] Overwhelming it seemed when he began the next countdown on December 26 But here we are more than halfway there again. Thank you for keeping the Christmas spirit alive year-round Hope this review ends the recent drought that you've had. Merry Christmas to you all

[00:09:17] But I did because I was in Canada for a short amount of time there. Okay, great. How was it? Well, I didn't actually get off the boat because my daughter doesn't have a passport So I was only in Canadian waters

[00:09:28] but I was trying to workshop a joke while I was out there whale watching and we saw otters and I Working on Otter you know, Otter you do in New Year's Eve, but I

[00:09:39] Haven't come up with the setup for it yet, but I have one that I found online It was on a website that said like 1300 Santa Claus jokes. Wow. That's a lot of Santa Claus. So here we go Why does mrs. Claus love the holiday season?

[00:09:54] Why does say what is why does Santa Claus love the holiday season? No, why does mrs Claus love the holiday season or the love the Christmas season? Oh Gosh, I mean Santa's gone. So I'm sure that's an upside for her get some peace and quiet

[00:10:08] I don't know. It makes her feel so sentimental That's a lot that's a lot why don't we do the countdown let's do Feels good to say it again Scotty it feels good. It really does how many weeks is that?

[00:10:39] 24 24 weeks still sounds like a lot but 168 days. That's great We skipped week 25 last week, which is a pretty monumental Number, you know 25 you think about sure, you know, it's a nice roundish kind of number

[00:10:55] I understand that you know, what else is cool brand is there is some QVC Christmas in July stuff happening this week Yeah, I imagine that there would be well they sprinkle stuff in they don't seem to be doing like one solid weekend block like they

[00:11:10] used to but I was looking at my DVR to see what was being recorded and it says one of the upcoming recordings is David's great big Christmas, which is my favorite QVC thing because everything is just oversized. It's like

[00:11:23] This guy's big like Dan. Yeah, like all the giant pencils giant snowman giant everything So right, I'm really looking forward to that one and I save that on my DVR all year so I can go back to it

[00:11:35] So really looking forward to that. This is a high-water mark of the upcoming Christmas season for me And also 83 days until October 1st That's exciting I love that very excited that a lot Scotty you want some news

[00:11:53] Yeah, I sure do I could really use some so now he is July 10th 2024 He'll the nose now Scotty. This is I don't know if we've talked about this before But there was a documentary on Apple TV

[00:12:14] Plus I think it could a be the color 2021 called was the fight before Christmas Do you recall hearing about this about this guy? He went crazy decorating his house and he did a bullet put on a big event the HOA got involved

[00:12:28] They said you can't do this. He said you're discriminating they went to court he he won and then the judge overturned the ruling and said no you lost and Then he took it to What is another thing another type of court? Yeah, some sort of appeals process

[00:12:49] Yes. Yes the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Appealed And that is where we have been since 2020 and it just came back years. I know I well It was a pandemic. I think I had something to do with it. Maybe I don't know but

[00:13:05] It said the the three judge panel now has issued a mixed ruling favoring both the HOA and the guy in different aspects Now what this does Scotty is it makes it possible for them to retry the case

[00:13:22] So my gosh appeals court said it could go either way. So There's we don't really know what's gonna happen with this. I'll say this. This is a juicy Christmas story We don't get many of these, you know

[00:13:35] It is one of those things where the more you dive into the story the more you're like boy this guy's annoying isn't he but Watch the documentary at the very least it's really interesting battle between HOA and person But yeah, there's your update

[00:13:54] It might be going back to court for another case where a jury has already said that they rule in favor of the guy Because of quote-unquote discrimination and then the judge said no sirree

[00:14:07] No, it is not which why why do we have juries who knows but a very interesting Case very interesting story and a little update for those that have maybe seen the documentary and weren't aware that it was still going on Scotty this happened originally back in like

[00:14:24] 2015 or something like that 2017. So this has been a very long journey That apparently is just getting started, you know I've been on this planet for 48 years and I have two rules of thumb Brian Yeah, one of them is you don't pick a fight with a lawyer

[00:14:38] The other is you don't pick a fight with the HOA. So this is tough I'm not going to take a side on this. I'm just gonna sit back and eat the popcorn and watch I guess I

[00:14:49] Yeah, it is. It's just it's juicy. I as somebody who lived in an HOA. I imagine you would find it quite interesting I do find it quite interesting I understand where both sides are coming from because as much as I love my Christmas lights

[00:15:02] I also, you know, I pay to live in a nice neighborhood where I don't have like 10,000 watts of light coming in my windows from next door and buses coming through and stuff So I get it

[00:15:14] The worst part of this is that the guy who the HOA was saying he can't do this. He was a lawyer himself Yeah, so he's like hey, it doesn't say specifically that I can't do this specific type of activity

[00:15:29] So very interesting the documentary was a really interesting watch So if you haven't seen it yet, go ahead and take it out Do you think we should turn this show into a Christmas law show? Kind of like a it's called
