[00:00:02] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast

[00:00:12] It's the Christmas Morning Podcast

[00:00:14] Everyone join if you can

[00:00:18] Christmas greatest fans

[00:00:21] Scott and Bram

[00:00:23] Here for you and me

[00:00:26] Hello everybody, happy December 3rd to you

[00:00:29] I am Bram and I am, as usual, joined by my friend Scott

[00:00:33] Scott, Merry Christmas

[00:00:34] Merry Christmas, Bram

[00:00:36] You know, when we do the daily episodes

[00:00:37] We don't read every email that we get

[00:00:40] We have to kind of spread them out

[00:00:41] We don't know how many are going to come one week

[00:00:43] How many won't

[00:00:45] And I really wish that I had taken today's email

[00:00:49] And put it with the music ones yesterday

[00:00:51] But it just didn't work out that way

[00:00:53] So I guess we're going to continue the music theme

[00:00:55] Is it okay if I open up that mailbag?

[00:00:57] I think that that's a great idea, Scotty

[00:00:59] Letters, we get letters

[00:01:01] We get stacks and stacks of letters

[00:01:05] And honestly, Scotty, this might be hard to believe

[00:01:09] But there are people that wait until after Thanksgiving

[00:01:11] To start listening to Christmas music

[00:01:13] And so this is honestly a pretty good theme for the week

[00:01:17] You and I don't start listening to Christmas music ever

[00:01:20] Because we never stop

[00:01:21] I just don't know how it doesn't compute in my mind

[00:01:25] Hey, you know what?

[00:01:26] To each their own

[00:01:26] I have an email from Jeremy Butel

[00:01:28] Jeremy says

[00:01:29] On the November 20th episode

[00:01:32] Scott claimed there were no Thanksgiving songs

[00:01:34] Then, after Bran offered up the Ben Rector classic

[00:01:38] It was determined that Rector had the market cornered

[00:01:41] But the past few holiday seasons

[00:01:42] We've seen a slight uptick in the Thanksgiving music genre

[00:01:45] Here is a playlist for your sampling pleasure

[00:01:48] Now, again, Bran, we have to paint a word picture

[00:01:51] Of what the playlist is

[00:01:53] Because we don't have a way to share the link

[00:01:54] Just search for Thanksgiving 2024

[00:01:57] And you should see Jeremy's playlist there

[00:02:01] It is full of great songs

[00:02:03] Nice job, Jeremy

[00:02:05] Thank you

[00:02:05] That sounds great

[00:02:06] I'm gonna, listen

[00:02:07] I'm still in the Thanksgiving spirit

[00:02:09] I'm still chewing on some turkey

[00:02:11] And eating some pie

[00:02:12] So I'll listen to the playlist

[00:02:14] It's always a good reminder, Scotty

[00:02:16] To be thankful

[00:02:16] Bran, a little admin here

[00:02:19] We should add a links section to the website

[00:02:21] That would be a whole lot easier

[00:02:23] Than this nonsense that I'm doing here

[00:02:25] It's a great idea

[00:02:25] Trying to describe playlists with words

[00:02:28] It's a great idea

[00:02:28] Alright, we'll put our research department on that

[00:02:31] Another email I have is from Benjamin Race

[00:02:33] Benjamin says

[00:02:34] Great show today, guys

[00:02:35] On the subject of Thanksgiving music

[00:02:37] Do yourself a favor and listen to

[00:02:39] Gobble Gobble by Matthew West

[00:02:41] I thought it was an entire album

[00:02:43] But you go to it and it's one track

[00:02:45] But I have to admit

[00:02:46] The track is fantastic

[00:02:48] I wish

[00:02:49] Well, I don't know if it was on

[00:02:51] I don't think it's on Bandcamp

[00:02:52] I was gonna say

[00:02:52] I wish I had brought it for the food fight last week

[00:02:54] But great songs

[00:02:56] Thank you, Ben

[00:02:57] Appreciate that

[00:02:57] It's a fun time for sure

[00:02:59] And then the last email is just from Doc

[00:03:01] We got an email from Doc?

[00:03:03] Yep

[00:03:04] This is huge

[00:03:04] Probably from Back to the Future, I think

[00:03:06] Doc says

[00:03:07] I have to admit

[00:03:08] I was feeling a little apprehensive

[00:03:11] About your taking the show daily

[00:03:12] On November 1st

[00:03:13] That is a lot of added podcasts

[00:03:15] And I was wondering if I'd be able to keep up

[00:03:18] Well, I have a long commute

[00:03:19] And when I see that my iPod

[00:03:21] Yep, I still use one of them

[00:03:23] Is loaded up with four or five Christmas mornings

[00:03:25] I know I have some pleasant listening ahead

[00:03:28] I guess some of those other podcasts I listen to

[00:03:30] Will just have to wait until after the holidays

[00:03:33] Thank you for all the Christmas cheer you bring

[00:03:35] P.S. Scott

[00:03:37] I am right there with you when it comes to Lacey Chabert

[00:03:39] But then she had me at Mean Girls

[00:03:42] See?

[00:03:43] It's not just me, Bran

[00:03:44] Have I ever told you how into Lacey

[00:03:46] No, you're not allowed to

[00:03:47] Maybe I should

[00:03:48] But I just want to say that

[00:03:50] Everywhere that Lacey walks

[00:03:52] The floor is lava

[00:03:53] Does he download all of them

[00:03:55] And then listen in one setting?

[00:03:57] Is that how I'm understanding this?

[00:03:59] I don't know how he does it

[00:04:00] I still have an iPod

[00:04:01] In fact, I like to restore them

[00:04:03] And I gave you a Christmas iPod

[00:04:04] So we're an exclusive club

[00:04:06] I love that

[00:04:07] And I've never thought about loading it with a bunch of podcasts

[00:04:11] And now I will

[00:04:12] Although

[00:04:12] No, it seems like a lot of work

[00:04:13] I don't even know how to load that iPod

[00:04:15] At this point in my life

[00:04:17] So that's tough

[00:04:18] Oh

[00:04:18] Lacey aside, Bran

[00:04:20] What Doc is saying is something that I struggle with a little bit at this time of year too

[00:04:24] Because I have a bunch of Christmas podcasts that I like

[00:04:26] And this time of year there are way more than I'm used to

[00:04:30] And it's really hard to fit them all in

[00:04:32] Just be okay, Doc, with saying

[00:04:34] You know what?

[00:04:35] This is going to wait until after Christmas

[00:04:37] And honestly

[00:04:38] Once everything dies down

[00:04:39] Then it feels like it's a barren wasteland

[00:04:41] So it's kind of fun to have a few extra

[00:04:43] All queued up for that period in January

[00:04:45] Well, we'll be back though

[00:04:47] That's right

[00:04:47] In January

[00:04:47] So don't worry

[00:04:48] And it is part of the reason why we keep the battle open

[00:04:50] At least until New Year's Eve

[00:04:51] Because we know

[00:04:52] Yeah

[00:04:53] You know, some of these episodes are going to fall

[00:04:55] Like you're not going to be able to listen every single day

[00:04:57] I mean, some people might

[00:04:58] But

[00:04:58] I think there are people that do

[00:04:59] I think there are, for sure

[00:05:01] But there are people that maybe listen in batches like this

[00:05:04] And so we want to help make sure that they can still vote

[00:05:07] Vote, vote, vote

[00:05:08] Vote, vote, vote

[00:05:08] You got a joke for us, Scotty?

[00:05:10] I do

[00:05:10] What do snowmen eat for breakfast?

[00:05:12] Iceburgers?

[00:05:13] No, no, no, no, no

[00:05:14] That's what they like for dinner

[00:05:15] This is breakfast

[00:05:17] Ah, okay

[00:05:18] A breakfast iceburger

[00:05:19] No, no, no

[00:05:20] Ice crispies

[00:05:22] Waka waka

[00:05:23] That's better than iceburgers

[00:05:25] It really is

[00:05:25] At least this one's kind of funny

[00:05:27] Let's do the countdown

[00:05:28] Let's do it

[00:05:29] Go!

[00:05:35] 22 days into Christmas

[00:05:40] 22

[00:05:41] 22

[00:05:42] 22 double 11

[00:05:42] Look at you

[00:05:43] I love it

[00:05:44] Woo!

[00:05:45] That's very fun

[00:05:45] 22's nice

[00:05:46] And I think the one big takeaway here is we're going to

[00:05:49] By the end of the week, Scotty

[00:05:51] We're going to be in the teens

[00:05:51] Oh, no, stop

[00:05:53] I'm sorry

[00:05:54] That's too fast

[00:05:55] I'm sorry

[00:05:56] I'm freaking out

[00:05:57] I'm freaking out

[00:05:59] Ah, 22

[00:06:00] That's nice

[00:06:01] What can you do with that number?

[00:06:02] I mean, it's 11 twice

[00:06:04] 11 twice

[00:06:05] It's 2 11 times

[00:06:07] I don't know

[00:06:08] I'm not in a math mode right now

[00:06:11] I'm in oh my goodness mode

[00:06:13] Thinking about

[00:06:14] Fair

[00:06:14] Thinking about trying to take it all in

[00:06:16] You know, it's a little ironic that we help other people slow down

[00:06:19] But this is our busiest time

[00:06:21] It's our busiest time

[00:06:22] But I like it

[00:06:23] I would have it no other way

[00:06:25] Nope, I wouldn't do anything else

[00:06:26] Because I love being here with you

[00:06:27] And I love all our morning people

[00:06:29] That's right

[00:06:29] Hey, I got some news if you want

[00:06:30] Yes, please

[00:06:36] Today is December 3rd, 2024

[00:06:39] And here is the news

[00:06:42] Ah, hey

[00:06:43] It's a big day

[00:06:44] If you're in the D.C. area

[00:06:46] The capital Christmas tree

[00:06:50] The capital Christmas tree

[00:06:51] Has been put up in the West Lawn

[00:06:53] It's 80 feet tall

[00:06:54] And it is going to be lit up tonight

[00:06:58] Beginning at 5pm

[00:07:00] It'll be lit up every night

[00:07:02] Through January 1st

[00:07:04] Now, some information about this Christmas tree

[00:07:07] This Christmas tree

[00:07:09] Came to D.C. from Alaska

[00:07:13] Whoa

[00:07:13] Alaska

[00:07:14] I know

[00:07:15] The tree is named Wayne

[00:07:17] Oh

[00:07:18] Okay

[00:07:18] I don't know

[00:07:19] I didn't know we were doing that

[00:07:22] I didn't know we were naming trees

[00:07:24] And so now that I know that

[00:07:25] So for the rest of this

[00:07:26] I'm just going to say Wayne

[00:07:28] Yeah

[00:07:28] And you need to know what I'm talking about

[00:07:30] But Wayne came from the Tongass National Forest

[00:07:35] Okay, so I was in the Tongass National Forest

[00:07:38] Yes

[00:07:38] This summer

[00:07:39] When I went

[00:07:40] So you may

[00:07:40] You may have bumped into Wayne

[00:07:42] Maybe I did

[00:07:43] I was out dog sledding

[00:07:44] There you go

[00:07:45] It is the second year

[00:07:47] That the capital Christmas tree

[00:07:48] Has come from Alaska

[00:07:49] The first one was in 2015

[00:07:51] So two times in nine years

[00:07:53] Is not bad

[00:07:55] Not shabby

[00:07:55] And the Sitka spruce

[00:07:58] Is one of the tallest trees

[00:07:59] In the tradition's history

[00:08:01] Most trees that they have

[00:08:03] Are 60 to 70 feet tall

[00:08:05] This one is 80

[00:08:07] 80 feet

[00:08:08] Wow

[00:08:08] There have been some other ones

[00:08:10] That were a little bit bigger

[00:08:11] But that's about as big as it gets there

[00:08:13] Here's some information

[00:08:14] It was on a remote island

[00:08:16] So they had to identify the tree

[00:08:18] Harvest a tree

[00:08:19] Get it on a barge

[00:08:21] To another island

[00:08:22] And then from that island

[00:08:23] Get it onto a commercial transporter

[00:08:25] To another community

[00:08:26] It had to switch barges from there

[00:08:29] And then get shipped all the way down to D.C.

[00:08:31] It is about a 700 mile boat ride

[00:08:35] To get to the port of Seattle

[00:08:37] And then we flew it

[00:08:39] Down to meet up with it

[00:08:41] And 4,000 miles

[00:08:44] To get onto truck

[00:08:46] I don't know

[00:08:46] It's a long journey

[00:08:48] For this tree

[00:08:49] And it is going to be available

[00:08:50] To see at the capital

[00:08:52] Decorated with 10,000 ornaments

[00:08:56] Brian, I feel like

[00:08:57] If you and I were in charge

[00:08:58] Of scouting the capital Christmas tree

[00:09:01] And you came to me and said

[00:09:02] I've got it

[00:09:03] It's in the Tongass National Forest

[00:09:05] I'd be like

[00:09:05] Brian, can't we just go over

[00:09:06] To like Leesburg, Virginia

[00:09:07] And just pick one up

[00:09:08] Like I can see one

[00:09:09] From our office

[00:09:10] I was going to say

[00:09:12] This seems

[00:09:13] And I know we're the Christmas people

[00:09:15] But this seems wasteful

[00:09:17] It seems excessive

[00:09:18] Like

[00:09:18] We did a big push

[00:09:20] Even

[00:09:20] We were talking

[00:09:21] I think

[00:09:22] The actual White House

[00:09:24] The White House Christmas tree

[00:09:26] Is going to be from North Carolina

[00:09:27] Get it from North Carolina

[00:09:28] Come on

[00:09:29] Everybody knows this

[00:09:30] I don't know why

[00:09:31] We're going to the Tongass

[00:09:32] And not only is it confusing

[00:09:34] To get it

[00:09:36] From the Tongass

[00:09:37] To D.C.

[00:09:38] But they're all

[00:09:38] So you just

[00:09:39] Maybe just go down

[00:09:40] A little bit

[00:09:41] And you can get some

[00:09:42] I don't know

[00:09:43] I don't know

[00:09:43] Maybe there's

[00:09:43] Yeah, you're going to buy

[00:09:45] A lot of carbon offsets

[00:09:46] For that tree

[00:09:46] I hope it's worth it, Wayne

[00:09:48] Wayne

[00:09:48] Shout out to Wayne

[00:09:49] Rest in peace, obviously

[00:09:50] He's going to have

[00:09:51] A wonderful

[00:09:52] Final month

[00:09:53] Yeah

[00:09:53] Of his tree life

[00:09:55] I mean

[00:09:55] It is the highest honor

[00:09:57] For a pine tree, isn't it?

[00:09:58] Of course

[00:09:58] It is

[00:09:59] Well, aside from being left living

[00:10:02] Some would argue

[00:10:03] Some would argue

[00:10:04] Let's do this

[00:10:05] Let's take a quick break

[00:10:05] We'll come back

[00:10:06] We'll get to the TV listings

[00:10:07] Of the day

[00:10:08] And the original

[00:10:09] Christmas music battle

[00:10:10] Here on Christmas morning

[00:10:15] Welcome back, everybody

[00:10:16] It is a TV special time

[00:10:19] TV Scotty is in the house

[00:10:20] And he's got a bundle

[00:12:30] Christmas songs

[00:12:31] that Scotty and I found

[00:12:32] while scouring

[00:12:34] Up first

[00:12:35] we have a song

[00:12:36] called

[00:12:36] Coal For Me

[00:12:38] by Kenan McKenzie

[00:12:41] I wrote St. Nick a letter

[00:12:44] told him to bring me coal

[00:12:49] said I wrote St. Nick a letter

[00:12:52] told him to just bring me coal

[00:12:57] I've been pretty good this year

[00:12:59] but keeping him happy

[00:13:01] takes a toll

[00:13:04] Why should I make the nice list

[00:13:07] How does he get to draw the line

[00:13:12] Why should I make the nice list

[00:13:15] How does he get to draw the line

[00:13:24] Like it's 1929

[00:13:28] Coal for me

[00:13:29] and coal for you

[00:13:31] That's the thing

[00:13:33] that I desire

[00:13:36] Coal for me

[00:13:37] and coal for you

[00:13:39] Baby that's the thing

[00:13:41] that I desire

[00:13:42] Ooh I actually like that

[00:13:44] quite a bit Bran

[00:13:44] That was good

[00:13:45] I mean as far as songs go

[00:13:47] about getting coal

[00:13:48] for Christmas

[00:13:48] that was

[00:13:49] That's probably the best

[00:13:50] best one I've ever heard

[00:13:51] Pretty good

[00:13:52] Up next we got

[00:13:53] Candy Cane Lane

[00:13:54] I can't imagine how we found this one

[00:13:56] by The Willows

[00:13:57] Nice and early

[00:14:01] The sun's still pretty shy

[00:14:04] Cozy in the covers

[00:14:06] Just you and I

[00:14:08] It's snowing

[00:14:10] Woolen blankets

[00:14:11] From a blue and cloudy sky

[00:14:13] Christmas time's a coming

[00:14:23] Take me down

[00:14:24] To Candy Cane Lane

[00:14:25] With cocoa cups to go

[00:14:27] We're bundled up for the snow

[00:14:29] Where we can hold hands some more

[00:14:32] Take me down

[00:14:34] To Candy Cane Lane

[00:14:35] I beg you dear

[00:14:36] Let's go

[00:14:37] It's a jolly old day

[00:14:39] You know

[00:14:39] So just what are you waiting for

[00:14:42] Won't you saddle

[00:14:43] Up the horses

[00:14:44] The goose is getting fat

[00:14:47] It's windy

[00:14:48] St. Nicky

[00:14:50] Oh my!

[00:14:51] Dear!

[00:14:51] Hold your hat

[00:14:52] Kiss my cheeks

[00:14:53] When they're nice and rosy

[00:14:54] Under frosty mistletoe

[00:14:57] You got me so giddy

[00:15:05] Not sure it's the most Christmassy song

[00:15:07] I've ever heard, Bran

[00:15:07] But the Willows have a beautiful harmony there

[00:15:10] There's something about that type of sound though

[00:15:12] That immediately gets me in the Christmas spirit

[00:15:14] Yeah, it's the Andrews sisters vibe I think

[00:15:16] Yes, 100%

[00:15:18] Two fun original songs

[00:15:20] I think it's going to be a good battle

[00:15:21] You can vote right now

[00:15:22] Link is in the description

[00:15:23] And the link will be live through New Year's Eve

[00:15:27] So go ahead and vote whenever you can

[00:15:29] Scotty

[00:15:29] That does it for today

[00:15:31] That's the bad news

[00:15:32] But the good news is we're coming back tomorrow for another one

[00:15:34] All right

[00:15:35] You want to go scout out some Christmas trees for next year?

[00:15:36] Let's do it

[00:15:57] Feel free to bail now

[00:15:59] But either way
