[00:00:02] This is a Bramble Jam Podcast

[00:00:11] It's the Christmas Morning Podcast, everyone join if you can

[00:00:17] Christmas greatest fans, Scott and Bram, here for you and me

[00:00:25] Well, well, well, Merry Christmas everybody

[00:00:29] Welcome to another week of daily episodes of Christmas Morning

[00:00:34] I'm Brandon and I am here per usual with my friend Scott

[00:00:37] Scott, Merry Christmas to you, buddy

[00:00:39] Hey, brand happy middle of December

[00:00:42] Seems weird to say that

[00:00:43] It's crazy, we only have two full weeks ahead of us, Scotty

[00:00:49] Yeah, where did the time go?

[00:00:50] In the past

[00:00:51] Oh, darn that time, every week seems to happen

[00:00:55] Waka waka!

[00:00:56] Doing the best I can over here

[00:00:59] Speaking of Mondays and a new week

[00:01:02] Mondays are always fun because it's the start of a new week

[00:01:05] And also because the mailbag is as full as it gets

[00:01:08] Because the emails kind of come in over the weekend

[00:01:10] So I think we've got to open that sucker up, Scotty

[00:01:12] Let's do it

[00:01:12] Letters, we get letters

[00:01:15] We get stacks and stacks of letters

[00:01:19] I have an email from Jill Garcia

[00:01:21] Jill says, Merry Christmas, Brandon Scott

[00:01:23] Merry Christmas

[00:01:23] This is way overdue

[00:01:25] But I have been so excited with the daily podcasts

[00:01:27] And I meant to say how I like the new theme song by Little Red Ambulance

[00:01:32] The song has a really mellow and comforting vibe

[00:01:34] And I think I'm used to it now

[00:01:36] Everyone at the podcast

[00:01:37] Shannon, Larry, TV Scotty, Poppy, Mrs. Claus, etc.

[00:01:40] The whole squad

[00:01:41] Is so appreciated

[00:01:42] And you make the season so nice

[00:01:43] And the podcasts lift me up when the magic is all over

[00:01:46] And I need some Christmas in my life during the off-season

[00:01:48] You asked for some Christmas traditions

[00:01:50] And I may have a new one in our home

[00:01:53] Ooh

[00:01:53] I normally put up my tree on Veterans Day weekend

[00:01:56] And I just can't hold out until Thanksgiving or later

[00:01:59] I have a white-flocked, pre-lit tree

[00:02:02] Since my husband and I will have two major trips over the holiday season

[00:02:05] And we didn't want to deal with a real one drying out this year

[00:02:08] With needles all over the floor

[00:02:09] That's fair

[00:02:10] I decided since it's an election year

[00:02:11] And since we like to put up the tree on Veterans Day

[00:02:13] That I would do a patriotic tree

[00:02:15] With all red, white, and blue ornaments

[00:02:16] And law enforcement and military ornaments

[00:02:18] We have collected over the years

[00:02:20] I fill in blank areas on the tree with miniature flags

[00:02:23] Red, white, and blue pinwheels

[00:02:24] And sparkly decorations

[00:02:25] And I topped it with a red, white, and blue metallic spilling thingy

[00:02:28] And it looks great

[00:02:29] I am enjoying this patriotic tree so much

[00:02:31] It may become our tradition every four years

[00:02:33] Our other traditions here in New Mexico

[00:02:36] Are strolling with the fiddlers

[00:02:38] Along a bonfire-lit path

[00:02:40] To the old church

[00:02:41] From the 1800s

[00:02:42] Oh

[00:02:43] At my husband's Pueblo

[00:02:44] She says that's village

[00:02:45] In northern New Mexico

[00:02:47] And watching dances on the dance plaza

[00:02:49] On Christmas Day

[00:02:50] And the day after Christmas

[00:02:51] It's usually freezing cold

[00:02:53] But a beautiful tradition

[00:02:54] Going back hundreds of years

[00:02:55] And we warm up with tamales

[00:02:57] And red chili stew and cocoa

[00:02:58] Mmm

[00:02:59] Thanks so much for detailing

[00:03:00] All of the very generous goodies

[00:03:02] That Jill and Xavier sent

[00:03:03] I've been enjoying learning

[00:03:04] About the treats they sent

[00:03:05] I do remember my mother

[00:03:07] Buying some fancy kind of

[00:03:08] Pressure cooking device

[00:03:09] To make steamed persimmon pudding

[00:03:10] In the 70s

[00:03:12] And a neighbor from England

[00:03:13] Who taught her how to make it

[00:03:14] His name was Percy

[00:03:15] And we kiddos teased her

[00:03:16] About Percy's persimmon pudding

[00:03:18] I thought of that old memory

[00:03:19] When you had your pudding cold

[00:03:20] LOL

[00:03:21] Merry Christmas to you

[00:03:22] And everyone who makes the podcast happen

[00:03:24] Jill from Las Lunas, New Mexico

[00:03:26] And Branch

[00:03:27] He says

[00:03:27] P.S.

[00:03:28] I bought the Christmas movie magic card game

[00:03:30] Another podcast

[00:03:32] Has been talking about

[00:03:33] Oh

[00:03:33] And look forward to playing it

[00:03:35] How about that

[00:03:35] Isn't that nice?

[00:03:36] How about that

[00:03:37] That's very nice

[00:03:37] Thank you for all those fun tidbits

[00:03:39] Jill

[00:03:40] That's very

[00:03:40] Very kind of you

[00:03:42] I love

[00:03:42] The idea of

[00:03:44] Strolling with the Fiddler

[00:03:46] Yeah that's really neat

[00:03:47] Isn't it?

[00:03:48] Strolling with the Fiddlers

[00:03:49] Along a bonfire lit path

[00:03:52] To the old church

[00:03:53] Like there's just

[00:03:55] That whole sentence

[00:03:55] Is magical

[00:03:57] Yeah

[00:03:57] So it really paints a picture

[00:03:59] Thank you so much Joe

[00:04:00] Really great

[00:04:00] Thanks Joe

[00:04:01] You got a joke for us today Scotty?

[00:04:03] I do

[00:04:03] Why did the snowman

[00:04:04] Call his dog Frost?

[00:04:06] Oh man

[00:04:08] Cause his name's Jack?

[00:04:10] No

[00:04:10] Because Frost bites

[00:04:12] Waka waka

[00:04:14] Not bad huh?

[00:04:15] I like that

[00:04:16] It's good for

[00:04:16] Good for a Monday

[00:04:17] I'll tell you that

[00:04:18] Alright

[00:04:18] It's a good way to start it off

[00:04:19] I like that

[00:04:20] Let's do the countdown

[00:04:26] 16 days until Christmas

[00:04:30] That can't be right

[00:04:31] Yeah I know

[00:04:32] Six

[00:04:32] That can't be right

[00:04:33] I double checked it

[00:04:34] It's right

[00:04:35] I'm calling shenanigans on this

[00:04:37] I wish it was shenanigans

[00:04:38] I want 45 more days

[00:04:40] Until Christmas

[00:04:41] Man

[00:04:41] 16?

[00:04:42] Yeah

[00:04:43] That's crazy

[00:04:44] I'm already starting to get that

[00:04:45] Post Christmas blues feeling

[00:04:47] And it's not even Christmas

[00:04:48] It's not fair

[00:04:49] The late Thanksgiving

[00:04:51] Really throws you off

[00:04:52] The worst

[00:04:54] It feels like everybody else

[00:04:55] Just finally joined us

[00:04:57] And then it's gonna be

[00:04:58] It's good

[00:04:58] It's 16

[00:04:59] But we had the parade

[00:05:01] Over the weekend

[00:05:02] Here in Greenville, South Carolina

[00:05:03] And it was wonderful

[00:05:04] And if you weren't

[00:05:06] In the Christmas

[00:05:07] I love a parade

[00:05:08] I know you know that about me

[00:05:10] I know that you love a parade

[00:05:11] I love a good parade

[00:05:11] But I love going to

[00:05:13] A parade in person

[00:05:14] As much as I love watching

[00:05:15] The Thanksgiving Day parade

[00:05:16] There's something about

[00:05:17] The Christmas parade

[00:05:18] That you see in person

[00:05:19] That really

[00:05:19] Really jump starts

[00:05:21] The Christmas spirit

[00:05:22] For everybody

[00:05:23] It's hard to be in a bad mood

[00:05:24] When you're watching

[00:05:25] A Christmas parade

[00:05:25] So if you

[00:05:27] If you haven't gotten

[00:05:28] To yours yet

[00:05:28] Apparently there's only

[00:05:29] 16 days left

[00:05:30] So make sure that you

[00:05:32] Find out when yours is

[00:05:33] And get out there

[00:05:33] Do you go to the

[00:05:34] The local parade?

[00:05:35] No

[00:05:35] I don't like standing still

[00:05:37] I get very impatient

[00:05:38] Sure

[00:05:39] And I also don't like

[00:05:40] People around me

[00:05:41] So that's

[00:05:41] Okay fair

[00:05:42] That's a double hit

[00:05:43] But I like watching it on TV

[00:05:45] And then if I get impatient

[00:05:46] I can go do something

[00:05:47] Or pause it

[00:05:48] I love that Macy's parade

[00:05:50] This year

[00:05:50] So good

[00:05:50] Except for the rain

[00:05:51] It did make it interesting

[00:05:53] And memorable

[00:05:53] The rain adds a little something

[00:05:55] So you never know

[00:05:57] What's going to happen

[00:05:57] That's what all the people

[00:05:58] Who fell say

[00:05:59] I know you're kind of

[00:05:59] Leaning in

[00:06:00] Waiting for

[00:06:00] But I was surprised

[00:06:02] At how many people

[00:06:03] Didn't fall

[00:06:04] I thought the fall number

[00:06:04] Was going to be way higher

[00:06:05] But there was some

[00:06:06] Impressive dancing going on

[00:06:08] In the rain

[00:06:09] I can't imagine doing that

[00:06:10] I texted you

[00:06:11] During the parade

[00:06:12] You and Ryan

[00:06:12] Said if you pod this one

[00:06:13] I want to be the official

[00:06:14] Wipeout correspondent

[00:06:15] Do you have a wipeout count?

[00:06:18] I don't

[00:06:19] But I will go back and do it

[00:06:21] I'll even get the wipeout music

[00:06:22] There you go

[00:06:23] Wipeout

[00:06:24] Exactly

[00:06:25] Let's do the news

[00:06:31] Today is

[00:06:33] December 9th

[00:06:34] 2024

[00:06:36] Here's the news

[00:06:37] Scotty there is

[00:06:39] Always a debate about

[00:06:40] Real tree

[00:06:41] Fake tree

[00:06:42] There has been some

[00:06:43] Slander out there

[00:06:44] About me

[00:06:45] And how I've switched to

[00:06:47] The fake trees

[00:06:49] Oh gosh

[00:06:50] I know

[00:06:50] And part of the

[00:06:52] Conversation is always

[00:06:53] So you do a real tree

[00:06:54] It's better for the environment

[00:06:55] All this good stuff

[00:06:56] Well

[00:06:57] I came across

[00:06:58] This article

[00:06:59] From NPR

[00:07:00] And so

[00:07:01] This feels pretty

[00:07:02] Pretty official

[00:07:03] And apparently

[00:07:04] There has been

[00:07:05] New studies done

[00:07:06] To try to really

[00:07:08] Get to the bottom

[00:07:09] Of if you have

[00:07:11] An artificial tree

[00:07:12] How long do you have to

[00:07:13] Have that artificial tree

[00:07:14] For it to

[00:07:15] No longer be

[00:07:16] Less

[00:07:18] Helpful for the

[00:07:18] Environment

[00:07:19] To get that

[00:07:20] Because

[00:07:20] Everyone knows

[00:07:21] If you do

[00:07:21] Get one every year

[00:07:22] Of course

[00:07:22] It's not going to be

[00:07:23] Better for the environment

[00:07:24] Yeah of course

[00:07:24] A recent study

[00:07:26] Showed that

[00:07:27] As long as

[00:07:28] You have

[00:07:29] A tree

[00:07:30] An artificial tree

[00:07:31] For

[00:07:32] Five years

[00:07:33] And you reuse

[00:07:35] It every year

[00:07:35] For five years

[00:07:36] Then it is more

[00:07:37] Favorable

[00:07:38] For the environment

[00:07:39] Now granted

[00:07:41] This was a study

[00:07:42] Done by the

[00:07:42] American Christmas

[00:07:43] Tree Association

[00:07:44] Not to be confused

[00:07:45] With the National

[00:07:46] Christmas Tree Association

[00:07:47] The National

[00:07:49] Christmas Tree Association

[00:07:50] Is the people

[00:07:51] That are in charge

[00:07:52] Of you know

[00:07:53] The real trees

[00:07:53] American Christmas

[00:07:55] Tree Association

[00:07:55] Represents the

[00:07:56] Artificial tree

[00:07:57] Industry

[00:07:58] Really feel like

[00:07:59] They should have

[00:07:59] Some different

[00:08:00] Names there

[00:08:01] So this may

[00:08:03] There may be

[00:08:03] Some biases

[00:08:04] Here

[00:08:05] But the analysis

[00:08:06] Took into account

[00:08:07] Things like

[00:08:07] The netting around

[00:08:08] Real Christmas trees

[00:08:09] And the water

[00:08:10] That keeps them

[00:08:10] Alive in people's

[00:08:11] Home

[00:08:11] Versus the plastic

[00:08:12] Packaging

[00:08:13] Tape

[00:08:13] Used on fake

[00:08:14] Christmas tree

[00:08:15] Boxes

[00:08:15] Transportation

[00:08:16] Manufacturers

[00:08:17] And the trees

[00:08:17] Themselves

[00:08:18] So five years

[00:08:19] Plus is that

[00:08:21] Sweet spot

[00:08:22] But it is worth

[00:08:23] Noting that

[00:08:24] With all of these

[00:08:25] Variables

[00:08:25] The study says

[00:08:26] That transportation

[00:08:27] Accounts for

[00:08:28] Around 15%

[00:08:29] Of total global

[00:08:30] Warming potential

[00:08:31] For artificial

[00:08:32] Christmas trees

[00:08:33] And 10 to 12%

[00:08:34] For real ones

[00:09:04] So if that

[00:09:05] 4,000 miles

[00:09:07] That's a wonderful

[00:09:08] Callback

[00:09:08] Yes

[00:09:09] I do think

[00:09:10] That that is

[00:09:11] A net negative

[00:09:12] For the Christmas

[00:09:13] Tree industry

[00:09:14] Yes

[00:09:14] Yeah

[00:09:14] But net positive

[00:09:15] For the Tongass

[00:09:16] National Forest

[00:09:17] Absolutely

[00:09:17] They love it

[00:09:18] We can't stop

[00:09:18] Talking about it

[00:09:19] They love it

[00:09:20] So there you go

[00:09:20] Some fun

[00:09:21] You know

[00:09:21] Something to think

[00:09:22] Interesting

[00:09:22] Of course

[00:09:23] Because you know

[00:09:24] There's

[00:09:24] That's always

[00:09:25] A part of the

[00:09:26] Conversation

[00:09:26] And so apparently

[00:09:27] Five years

[00:09:28] Ish is around

[00:09:29] That sweet spot

[00:09:30] For artificial trees

[00:09:31] Okay so I have

[00:09:32] An idea for you

[00:09:33] Screenplay idea

[00:09:34] Okay

[00:09:34] The people at the

[00:09:35] Real Christmas tree

[00:09:36] Association

[00:09:37] Are fighting

[00:09:38] The people at

[00:09:39] The artificial

[00:09:40] Christmas tree

[00:09:41] You know

[00:09:41] It's like

[00:09:41] Boardroom meetings

[00:09:42] Like how can

[00:09:43] We stick it to them

[00:09:45] I just can't

[00:09:45] Believe how

[00:09:46] National Christmas

[00:09:48] Tree Association

[00:09:49] Those are real

[00:09:49] Trees

[00:09:50] American Christmas

[00:09:51] Tree Association

[00:09:52] Artificial tree

[00:09:53] Guys come on

[00:09:53] Well we have the

[00:09:54] National League

[00:09:55] And the American

[00:09:55] League

[00:09:56] We too

[00:09:56] It's football

[00:09:57] And Christmas trees

[00:09:58] Oh good story

[00:09:59] Oh my goodness

[00:10:00] Thank you

[00:10:01] And thanks to NPR

[00:10:02] Good write up

[00:10:03] Hey let's take a break

[00:10:04] And we'll come back

[00:10:05] We'll get to the TV listings

[00:10:06] And today's Christmas music

[00:10:07] Battle of Oh Holy Nights

[00:10:09] Right on the other side

[00:10:10] Of the break

[00:12:24] Thank you TV Scotty

[00:12:26] that was wonderful

[00:12:26] appreciate you

[00:12:27] Well thank you

[00:12:28] I'm exhausted

[00:12:29] from all this

[00:12:30] I'm actually

[00:12:30] looking forward

[00:12:31] when it goes

[00:12:31] back to

[00:12:32] what I would

[00:12:32] call normal

[00:12:33] Normal

[00:12:34] Normal is a

[00:12:35] full like

[00:12:36] week worth

[00:12:37] and it's less

[00:12:38] time than

[00:12:38] the

[00:12:39] Yeah normal

[00:12:39] is like

[00:12:40] 47 listings

[00:12:41] over a week

[00:12:41] versus 47

[00:12:43] listings in a

[00:12:43] single day

[00:12:44] It's a lot

[00:12:44] but listen

[00:12:46] I love it

[00:12:46] I love it

[00:12:47] I'd love it too

[00:12:48] Let's get to

[00:12:48] the Christmas

[00:12:49] music battle

[00:12:49] today is

[00:12:51] I think we

[00:12:51] would consider

[00:12:52] this song

[00:12:52] a bit of

[00:12:53] a vocal

[00:12:53] juggernaut

[00:12:54] you can

[00:12:55] take this

[00:12:55] song

[00:12:56] and if

[00:12:57] you have

[00:12:58] a powerhouse

[00:12:59] vocal

[00:13:00] you can

[00:13:01] really bring

[00:13:02] this song

[00:13:02] to life

[00:13:03] it is one

[00:13:03] of those

[00:13:03] songs that

[00:13:04] you don't

[00:13:04] want to

[00:13:05] try to

[00:13:05] tackle

[00:13:06] if you

[00:13:06] sound like

[00:13:07] I don't

[00:13:07] know

[00:13:07] me

[00:13:08] or a

[00:13:09] normal

[00:13:09] person

[00:13:09] Right

[00:13:10] I wouldn't

[00:13:10] try to sing

[00:13:11] Oh Holy

[00:13:11] Night

[00:13:11] This comes

[00:13:12] up sometimes

[00:13:13] on Tinsel

[00:13:13] Tunes

[00:13:14] that the

[00:13:14] popularity

[00:13:15] of a

[00:13:15] Christmas

[00:13:15] song

[00:13:16] or a

[00:13:17] Christmas

[00:13:18] carol

[00:13:18] more

[00:13:18] frequently

[00:13:19] is the

[00:13:20] ease of

[00:13:21] singing

[00:13:21] because if

[00:13:22] you have a

[00:13:23] song that's

[00:13:23] very difficult

[00:13:24] to sing

[00:13:24] it's not

[00:13:25] going to

[00:13:25] have huge

[00:13:25] popularity

[00:13:26] especially in

[00:13:27] a church

[00:13:27] setting

[00:13:28] Yes

[00:13:28] but it is

[00:13:29] a song

[00:13:29] as somebody

[00:13:30] who has

[00:13:31] grown up

[00:13:31] in the

[00:13:31] church

[00:13:32] and is

[00:13:32] also

[00:13:32] sang on

[00:13:33] stages

[00:13:33] at church

[00:13:34] it's always

[00:13:35] a great

[00:13:36] candlelight

[00:13:37] Christmas

[00:13:37] Eve service

[00:13:38] song

[00:13:38] where the

[00:13:40] choir

[00:13:41] leads it

[00:13:42] in the

[00:13:42] light

[00:13:43] It's a

[00:13:43] beautiful

[00:13:43] moment

[00:13:44] beautiful

[00:13:44] song

[00:13:45] as well

[00:13:46] Let's get

[00:13:47] to the

[00:13:47] first one

[00:13:47] This is

[00:13:48] Oh Holy

[00:13:48] Night

[00:13:48] by

[00:13:50] Vamussery

[00:13:54] That is

[00:14:55] a heavy

[00:14:55] version of

[00:14:56] it

[00:14:56] I love

[00:14:57] the band

[00:14:57] name

[00:14:58] Vamussery

[00:14:59] Have you

[00:14:59] ever

[00:15:00] listened

[00:15:00] to the

[00:15:00] David Sedaris

[00:15:01] short story

[00:15:02] Santa Land

[00:15:03] Diaries

[00:15:04] In there

[00:15:04] he talks

[00:15:05] about

[00:15:05] the cleaning

[00:15:06] product

[00:15:07] that they

[00:15:07] use to

[00:15:07] clean up

[00:15:08] children's

[00:15:08] vomit

[00:15:09] in

[00:15:09] Macy's

[00:15:10] Santa

[00:15:10] Land

[00:15:10] was called

[00:15:11] Vamuss

[00:15:11] and the

[00:15:13] elves

[00:15:13] used to

[00:15:13] have to

[00:15:13] say

[00:15:14] Vamuss

[00:15:14] if

[00:15:15] somebody

[00:15:15] puked

[00:15:16] This is

[00:15:16] not

[00:15:16] that

[00:15:16] this

[00:15:17] is

[00:15:17] Vamussery

[00:15:18] Totally

[00:15:18] different

[00:15:19] A little

[00:15:19] bit better

[00:15:20] than

[00:15:20] puked

[00:15:20] in

[00:15:21] Santa

[00:15:21] Land

[00:15:21] Next

[00:15:22] we have

[00:15:23] Oh Holy

[00:15:24] Night

[00:15:24] by

[00:15:24] Joel

[00:15:25] Chapman

[00:16:13] Bran that

[00:16:13] one was

[00:16:14] wild

[00:16:15] the harmonies

[00:16:16] in there

[00:16:16] are crazy

[00:16:16] and it

[00:16:17] sounds like

[00:16:17] it's all

[00:16:18] Joel

[00:16:18] Chapman

[00:16:18] doing

[00:16:19] multi-track

[00:16:19] so

[00:16:20] that

[00:16:20] I was

[00:16:21] gonna

[00:16:21] say

[00:16:21] this

[00:16:21] is

[00:16:21] an

[00:16:22] interesting

[00:16:23] wrinkle

[00:16:24] in the

[00:16:25] acapella

[00:16:25] always

[00:16:26] wins

[00:16:27] theory

[00:16:28] that we

[00:16:28] have

[00:16:29] we've

[00:16:29] never

[00:16:29] tested

[00:16:30] it

[00:16:30] I don't

[00:16:30] as far

[00:16:31] as I

[00:16:31] know

[00:16:31] where

[00:16:32] one

[00:16:32] person

[00:16:33] is

[00:17:18] go

[00:17:19] that you've only had for four years and you're considering getting a new one,

[00:17:23] hold out one more year.

[00:17:24] We will thank you.

[00:17:26] The planet Earth will thank you.

[00:17:28] We'll be back tomorrow with another episode.

[00:17:30] Until then, Merry Christmas.

[00:17:41] You're about to hear some ads that help pay for our trip back and forth to the North Pole.

[00:17:45] Feel free to listen.

[00:17:46] Feel free to bail now.

[00:17:48] But either way, thanks for being here.

[00:17:50] Ho, ho, ho.
